Advantages of having a nanny: no gaps in childcare coverage for random days off and snow days!
Also... give your nanny the day off because it’ll be so dangerous to leave the house on inauguration day. You can deal with your own kid!! This is a conversation nanny’s who work or live on the Hill should be having. |
Nanny will be working and has not requested the day off. We do not live anywhere near Capitol Hill. |
Inauration day is a holiday in the District. You can't take care of your kids for one day? |
+1 Same. We’d happily give her the day off if she requested it. We’re not anywhere near where there might be unrest. |
I can. So can my nanny, particularly when she’s being paid to do so. |
I am a nanny. My nanny family does not live anywhere close to Capitol Hill, and I have that day off.
They told me since January 4 when I came back to work to take that day off and stay safe at home. They are the most thoughtful bosses I ever had. |
We offered it to our nanny but she declined. My toddler has been having a lot of separation issues when nanny goes home at night and this three day weekend is going to be hard enough on him (nanny’s reasoning).
We aren’t in an area where there is likely to be trouble. She is going to drive that day (usually walks) just in case. |
So if we paid you would you take care of your own kids on a day when there is going to be rioting? |
Not the poster to whom you're responding, but our nanny will be working on WEdnesday, as will my husband and I. It isn't a holiday for us. She said she might want to take the day off to watch the inauguration and we said fine. There will not be any rioting in most places, certainly in most residential neighborhoods anywhere in the country. If you live within walking radius of a capitol then you have reason to take precaution. Otherwise, I'm unimpressed. |
Well, duh! That’s what we’re talking about - those who live in any area where there might be rioting. |
Even if you don’t work on or near Capitol Hill, still take into consideration your commute (and safety). There are a lot of road closures (more than usual) which may affect areas that aren’t near the hill because folks are taking different routes. Even still, it is being advised that if you don’t have to commute to DC don’t! They’re not just saying if you work near the hill. While we’re hoping it’s not going to be as bad as the media’s making it out to be, it’s being reported that there’s a lot of organizations that are making threats.
Parents can take care of their child(ren) for 1 day and considering the times, I’m sure a lot of employers have been and will be flexible on Inauguration Day, so don’t feel obligated— it’s about your comfort level not your employers, especially my POC. Stay safe! |
We gave off for Wednesday, but how about tomorrow? I think roads should be ok where they are coming from. |
