Does anyone know where nannies fall in the COVID vaccine hierarchy? I know this is still awhile into the future, but I am just trying to figure this out. Are they considered in home care providers? Or would they be along the lines of teachers, since they care for children? Apologies if there is already a forum about this, but if there is, I couldn't find it. |
Don't worry about it. Everyone will find out when they can get it in due time. |
Well, I do need to worry about it because we are deciding whether we want to go the nanny route or the daycare route. Have to apply to daycares now because of waitlists (due in May). |
Nannies will be after daycares. However, vaccines don’t work on everyone, and a nanny minimizes exposure, especially since you can’t predict how many other families at daycare will vaccinate, or when they will do so. |
Very very low. |
No. Nannies will be vaccinated with teachers. |
I think nannies will be offered the vaccine with teachers however using when the teacher vs nanny will be vaccinated makes no sense since none of the other kids in daycare will be vaccinated and could easily pass the virus on to your child. Or the other parents. Or the maintenance staff. Or the daycare kids older siblings.
Plus the vaccine is not a guarantee that a vaccinated person can’t pass the virus onto others - just that the vaccinated person will be asymptomatic. I’d put a far greater trust in one nanny with a commitment to be safe than a room full of kids and teachers. |
+1. Even after the vaccine, limiting exposure to people is still the only way until our kids can be vaccinated. A nanny is the better bet. |
Nannies will probably get the vaccine when it’s open to the public. But still, that won’t be until Spring or Summer at the earliest. |
Nanny here and I plan to get it as soon as I can whenever that may be. |
+2. Children will be the very last. Why even consider a daycare full of kids (especially since they can’t be masked) if covid is your concern? Our nanny will get it before DS and me because she’s older . Luckily, she’s always diligent about covid protocols. |
This is assuming your nanny is willing to take the vaccine, which is another question entirely. |
NP here. I would fire any nanny who refused. |
Well, you're just going to have to wait just like the rest of us, aren't you? Maybe you should take out a full page newspaper ad telling the Covid powers just how special you are and I bet they will be even less impressed than I and will care even less. |
Unless, you made this innoculation a condition of employment, you cannot force her to do so. Fire her for this and she can sue you. |
