Other nanny cost? RSS feed

We did a nanny share years ago but basically paid our share to the family who had had the nanny solo for years. We never set up our own tax ID or payroll. Trying to b think about all the other nanny cost. Can someone help me?

Hourly rate
Employer tax withholding
Yearly subscription to payroll service
Worker comp insurance
Christmas bonus

We live walking distance to elementary school and park so not planning on having her drive. So no insurance or mileage.

What other costs am I missing?

We are having a another baby in October and with DL hybrid and daycare closing randomly trying to figure out what the increase in expenses will actually be

That’s all I’m paying for. I suppose you could try to calculate extra craft supplies, etc.

You might let her add some food items to your grocery list. Are you going to allow her to take the kids places? Might want to calculate in zoo pass, or baby classes.

Right now, no to baby classes and zoo. We are thinking about the nanny route to reduce COVID vectors. So no before and after care for oldest. No daycare for middle or baby be once born. No library or classes or the likes until numbers are more in control.

Not opposed to driving or classes in a while, but not now

Unemployment insurance

You’re really planning on just the park and school for outings? How old are your kids?

There are plenty of outings to entertain and teach that won’t involve other people.

Nature center trails have outdoor signs
More than one park
State/national parks
View monuments/murals from vehicle on the way to other places or as their own trip
Bike rides

If you have an elementary aged child, you really need to think about the above.

Not interested in outings because of public bathroom issues. The point of the nanny will be to limit exposure. My hope is 1st grader will be in school most days and we have swing set in backyard for her too.

In normal times, exposure experiences and enrichment for 2 year old would be excellent but no. Not now. High risk people in the house, new baby, limited exposure for the foreseeable future

Yes.

Yes. If you don’t pay, let nanny go, nanny files? You’ll be in a heap of trouble and have to come up with a large chunk of money.

Public bathrooms are less of an issue than being around other people, but you do you. Most nannies won’t want to be limited to just your house, backyard and one park for the next year. Not only will the nanny be stir crazy, your toddler and older child (if home, which is likely since most schools seem to be planning a hybrid year) will be as well.

I’m highly in favor of quarantine or extreme social distancing. I just think you’re going to struggle to find a nanny with your expectations.

Thanks this is helpful. Did not know about this.

Thanks. We will see what we can find. I know we will need to find a unicorn but DD2 was hospitalized for a week when she was 1 month old and it was horrible and scary. I can't do that again for any kid. MIL lives with us (in her own space) but is medically high risk beyond just being old. So social distancing and extreme caution matters to me.

MIL in house, my maternity leave (so another person at home) and the uncertainty of DL next year all make finding the right person a challenge but I think there might be nannies who also want cautious employers so there might be a match out there.

MIL in house at all times, you in the house for maternity leave, and you want nanny to entertain a newborn and first grader but limit it to the house, backyard with a swing set, and one park?
That is a BIG order to fill. Plus, you mentioned the first grader may be in school - you must know that parents will be sending their kids to school even when sick, right? Parents have done it for years.

I hope you made certain that other family paid FICA and taxes.
