Just looked up the NYC guidelines and at this point childcare is considered an essential service. Not sure if it has anything to do with your employer being considered an essential service but at this particular point it seems that nannies can continue to go to work during a lockdown or SIP order. BTW I'm a nanny but have felt confused about this. No judgment just throwing this out there. |
I hope Both nannies and employers are “closing ranks” completely. The nanny only sees her charges and parents and the parents only see the nanny with grocery store runs and other essentials only when absolutely necessary. Sacrifices have to be made to contain this horrid virus.
As a nanny, I would quit any position where the parents were still seeing friends or extended (live out) family. |
It does not appear to be an essential service under DC's new order -- do folks agree that having your nanny come at this point is a violation of the order? |
Every city is interpreting childcare workers differently.
Our major made it very clear nannies were only essential employers if both parents were essential employees. If one parent is not essential, the nanny is not essential. If it is a wine parent household, the one parent must be essential. The city neighboring mine stayed all childcare workers are essential, including nannies. |
My state said anyone caring for minors, elderly or infirm is allowed to do so. |
What state? |
My town in hot zone west Chester county NY said nannies are essential
Well I’m willing to work as all I did last two weeks was sit in my bed, but my employers refuse for me to work , and they refusing to pay me . So I quit |
Michigan “To care for minors, dependents, the elderly, persons with disabilities, or other vulnerable persons.” (7, a, 8) https://www.michigan.gov/whitmer/0,9309,7-387-90499_90705-522626--,00.html |
Thanks. That definitely includes nannies. |
Nannies are essential only medical personell who are both working, no one else |
Law enforcement, therapist, mechanics, grocery store associates. |
Those who work in banks, deliver mail, military personnel, crossing guards, city bus drivers and trash pick up |
You are wrong, PP. |
My state as well. California. |
Regardless of what state you live in, nannies and families who employ nannies must be extra vigilant to self-isolate and socially distanced themselves when possible. |
