I'm curious what people are planning to do regarding their nanny's vacation time if we are all ordered to shelter-in-place (which means your nanny can't come to work). We're planning on paying our nanny for any time she's unable to/prevented from working through this period as long as we're also getting paid. But we're thinking of charging her vacation time for any leave we have to take in order to care for our child while she can't come to work. My employer expects me to use leave if I am unable to work - it seems appropriate to use the same standard with my nanny. What are others planning on doing? Thanks for the thoughts. |
No, our nanny’s vacation isn’t part of forced leave. If she couldn’t come in we would continue to pay her. |

Unfortunately there are ethical concerns for this . Is it really a good idea to expose your nanny to your kids who could be asymptomatic carriers ?

Our nanny is living alone so our nanny is coming to work. We are in a shelter in place situation but the nanny works so we can work from home, thus essential worker.

If she is able to work, she should work. She's in a private home not workplace. If she cannot work per government, yes you pay if you want her to return at the end of this. |
Most parents have a nanny because they have to work. So, yes, it is a good idea as they need to keep their jobs to pay the bills and pay nanny. |

The nanny continuing to work really depends on the parents’ financial situation and everyone’s ability to otherwise self-isolate. |
At BEST, it will be a year to 18 months before a vaccine is available. Most likely, it will take longer. If any one of us gets Covid, our nanny stops working and she gets her full comp package unless we lose our jobs. Until then, we all are being extremely careful. |

You chose to do this because you want to ensure that she will come back to.you She is not on vacation. |
In general, in the US employers can dictate when their employee's vacation time is to be used. I mean, not that it happens all that frequently, but they certainly can. |
