Why would you ever not pay your nanny during this time if you have a job? I’d never ever think to do that. Our nanny has been home since mid March getting paid. As she should be. I want her to be safe. She’s a fantastic person and loves my kids. Why wouldn’t I treat her respectfully like a real human being. She misses my kids when we FaceTime. I just can’t believe someone would do this. |
Depends. My contract reads that I have to give a minimum of 2 months of notice. I do NOT have to have my vacation approved. |
I spoke with another nanny who told me her NF requested she stay home for two months with pay except she is now back to work and they expect her to pay them back in cash or free hours. I was flabbergasted. She says she owes them 5k. |
No way, there’s no way it’s legal. |
It's not somebody that I know well but I did ask her if she quarantined at the family's request and she said she did. I think I need to get more info but this just blew my mind when I heard it. I was never off during the pandemic but I totally give major props to any family that paid their nanny to stay home but this did sound a little crazy to me unless they had some type of agreement beforehand. |
I mean isn't banking hours in itself illegal? |
Banking hours, comp time one week to avoid paying overtime the previous week, telling someone to take paid time off then work for free later, it’s all illegal. |
She needs to find a new job. An employer who does this is going to continue to abuse the relationship. |
