Screening process - looking for next au pair RSS feed

I need to start the process soonish for our next au pair. We’ve been with CC for 5 years but I’m seriously considering moving because of the consecutive days off rule. We’ve also always hosted au pairs from one European country because of language preferences. We are now thinking of opening up our search to include other countries because it’s been hard to find a great personality match but I’m overwhelmed by the idea of so many different options. Any tips on how to narrow down most effectively? No infants, no driving needed.

Don’t all agencies have the consecutive days rule

No. From my research it’s only CC and maybe one other.

You will have hard time finding one! I have been with EurAuPair and APC, it is the same.
There is one more agency that is not CC that had the same rule but I can’t remember which one.

With that said, I believe it is a good rule although even I struggle to follow it, like if we go out on Saturday and AP is on duty, I make sure to come home before 9 pm and on Monday she starts at 9 am. It is good for the body to totally reset for a decent amount of time.

Try looking at APIA. They’re the only one that serves DC area that might not require 1.5 consecutive days off.

I don’t understand. Are you not planning to give your au pair consecutive days off?

Poor Au Pair that won't be able to go out with her friends on weekends ...

Oh ffs this is not my question. Yes, most of the time ap will get consecutive days off and usually they get the whole weekend. Sometimes life is complicated and we need her to work a different schedule and the 1.5 consecutive days is difficult. Our au pair generally only works 25-30 hours a week with easy school aged children so spare me your pity.

It's not consecutive with APC. I've been very happy with them!

How do they compare in other ways? Monthly lcc meetings? Big enough pool if need to rematch?

Are you actually with APC or you are just talking? Below is part of the childcare agreement I signed with APC:

Host agrees that the au pair will perform childcare services and light housekeeping related to childcare that shall not exceed forty-five
(45) hours per week, five and one half (5 1/2) days per week, with a maximum of ten (10) hours per day
. Host agrees that the au pair will
have one full weekend off per month (Friday evening to Monday morning). If a dispute arises as to any of these limits or requirements,
AuPairCare shall resolve said dispute, and its decision shall be final.

5 1/2 days per week means she get 1.5 off. If you are not doing that with APC you are breaking the rule. Also if I remember correctly every month when you sign the "monthly contact form" they ask you explicitly if you gave AP 1.5 off.

^^ PP here, I take this back. I misunderstood this. LCC just confirmed the days don't have to be consecutive but it is highly recommended. The way I understand that you can never break the rule because AP is usually off at some point every day and schedule varies from family to family.

It means she gets 1.5 days off, but doesn’t mean they have to be CONSECUTIVE. She could work Monday-Friday 10 hours/day and 5 hours on Saturday evening and it would still be 1.5 days off.

Sure, she would have 1.5 days off, but she would have worked 55 hours, which is against the rules.
