Nannies not paying taxes

Maybe she wasn't sure how long you would be employing her or if it would work out. It isn't that easy to find subsidized housing if you (or another MB) bails.

I wish more parents feel the way you do. I’m currently looking for a new nanny family and I’ve been on eight interviews and as soon as I mention that I want to be paid legally the employer says, no way. So, it’s not always the nanny looking to cheat the system.

Nanny here and I have never not worked with legal deductions. It’s stupid and shortsighted for any nanny to work illegally and equally stupid for the employer.

Nannies, you have no legal recourse if you’re paid under the table. If you, for example, fall and get hurt badly on your employer’s front steps, they can simply fire you and you can to nothing to recoup wages. Employers can screw you out of your last pay and you can do nothing about it. Not to mention you will not be able to collect unemployment or put money into social security.

You think this forum is a good resource?! That’s on you. It is completely your fault. Post on your neighborhood listserve and list exactly what you want. Then maybe you will get some better quality candidates. Anyone can make a fake post claiming to be a MB. This is common sense.

When you ran a background check on her, you didn’t see she lived in subsidized housing?

That has nothing to do with paying taxes. She’d lose her housing and you paying more is fraud bit different issues.

Naw, the MB posts her email and you call her before making an offer. It's just as risky as anything else. I posted on neighborhood serves too but want another option.

It's completely about taxes. She wants whatever she gets over a certain amount (below poverty line) to be under the table so she 1. doesn't have to pay taxes on it and 2. can stay in her govt housing.

It's completely about taxes. She wants whatever she gets over a certain amount (below poverty line) to be under the table so she 1. doesn't have to pay taxes on it and 2. can stay in her govt housing.

No, she is not doing it for tax reasons. Income shows up on taxes which are required by the housing programs but she is doing it as she cannot afford a house/apartment without the voucher or subsidy on the salary most are willing to pay. If she goes above a certain income she loses medical, food stamps, housing and child care help, which is important to most families. Clearly you are not low income and ever struggled or you'd get that. If she wanted to not pay taxes she'd ask all under the table.
