I was offering to pay her what she asked for. She only wanted half the income on her tax return so she could continue to stay in subsidized housing! Disgusting!

That has nothing to do with paying taxes. She’d lose her housing and you paying more is fraud bit different issues.

It's completely about taxes. She wants whatever she gets over a certain amount (below poverty line) to be under the table so she 1. doesn't have to pay taxes on it and 2. can stay in her govt housing.

No, she is not doing it for tax reasons. Income shows up on taxes which are required by the housing programs but she is doing it as she cannot afford a house/apartment without the voucher or subsidy on the salary most are willing to pay. If she goes above a certain income she loses medical, food stamps, housing and child care help, which is important to most families. Clearly you are not low income and ever struggled or you'd get that. If she wanted to not pay taxes she'd ask all under the table.

It's about both avoiding taxes and committing fraud so she can stay in her house. Either way it's fraud.

You aren’t attracting professional nannies. Set higher standards and a better wage.

I found her through the nanny forum here. I’m not making posts, I’m only reaching out to MB who make the posts for their nanny. Stop blaming me because this nanny is taking advantage of the government.

You think this forum is a good resource?! That’s on you. It is completely your fault. Post on your neighborhood listserve and list exactly what you want. Then maybe you will get some better quality candidates. Anyone can make a fake post claiming to be a MB. This is common sense.

Naw, the MB posts her email and you call her before making an offer. It's just as risky as anything else. I posted on neighborhood serves too but want another option.

Again, anyone can do this and if you posted on neighborhood list serves you wouldn’t be here complaining. You are attracting low quality candidates bc your offer is low quality. But keep making excuses bc it’s clear you like to complain and want to blame everyone else.

OP said she offered to pay what the nanny asked for. But reading comprehension might be tough for a low income nanny like you....

This isn't even about a nanny, this is about someone poor taking advantage of real tax payers.

Then maybe you should learn to read as well but, you want to troll so go right ahead.

The nanny is committing fraud and it is illegal.

There are pretty big fines and penalties for the employer
for paying under the table.

I wonder why a well paid nanny would have to live in government housing. MB well it isn't right has it occurred to you that she may have children she is supporting and is concerned about their living conditions? Even well paid nannies have trouble finding affordable places to live in this area. Maybe you need to check your privilege a bit.

What an insulting thread considering the employers set the standards. I have always made it clear that I only accept jobs that withhold. But the agency that I worked for for full time positions had that as a standard also.

More nannies need to make the families do the right thing for them because if something ever happens to the job at least you will be able to file for unemployment benefits.
