I am currently a full-time Nanny for two girls, one three & another seven (in the first wk of Oct.)
I am not allowed to drive them anywhere, so our daily outings consist of walking to playgrounds, libraries and playgroups nearby. My NF lives in a neighborhood with many steep hills and our destinations are up to a mile one way. My issue? I have to use a double-stroller to push BOTH kids around. I have told my MB that during this summer heat, it is extra problematic for me pushing the 7yr. old around.... Especially uphill. I have been doing it 1/2 of June and all of this month so far. I have the 7yr. old until the end of August once school starts. My MB just laughed it up + told me that I can do it for another month. But I work Mon-Fri, every single week and my back hurts so much! How can I convince her to allow me to drive to our destinations instead? I have been with this family six years. |
Tell me that you would like to drive them and if not 6 year old has to walk? Not feat advice but can’t think of anything else. |
Why does a 7 year old need a stroller? If she doesn't want you driving, respect it. |
A 7 year old on a stroller? I’d just refuse. If the mom isn’t a stay at home, then just put the 3 year old in the stroller and tell the 7 year old to walk. Problem solved. What a lazy family! |
If you’re over 3 and with me, you’re walking. Does she think the 7 yr old gets chauffeured by teachers and chaperones while on field trips and out to recess? |
You should have found a new job years ago. |
I agree with pp. no way I’d stay 6 years where I can’t drive the kids at least 1-5 miles |
7 year old walks no matter what. |
Find a new job. I don't see what's so hard about that. |
+100 Any job where you are not permitted to drive and have to walk EVERYWHERE is unacceptable to me. Especially in the summer sun. ![]() ![]() Slavery ended years ago. |
My DD isn't even 5 yet, and she never ever ever gets pushed in a stroller. I mean, maybe at the zoo I'll let her sit on the footrest of the stroller if we've been there a while, but there is no double stroller situation going on in our lives. 7 year old walks, OP! |
How small minded of you to compare his to slavery! OP can find another job if she’s not happy, no one owes her the job she wants. OP, 7y/o walks and if you’re not happy, you can walk too. |
What happens when you tell the 7yo to walk. The 3yo doesnt need to be in a stroller either really, at that age mine was riding a scooter. |
Are you paid on the books? I’d tell her your back hurts and you are going to the doctor but wanted to warn her that you may need to go out on disability and ask if they have a disability policy in addition to the workers comp claim you may have to file. |
Wow, I started having my charges walk short distance (10 minutes) at 2.5. Now that they’re 3, they walk everywhere! Depending on how far we’re going, I bring the stroller and let them take breaks. I’ve had the parents say “oh, do you need us to pull the stroller out?” No thank you, everyone is fully capable of walking and they stare at me like I’m wrong. If your child can stop the stroller with their feet, they are too old/big.
Op, that sounds like torture! If you can afford being let go, I would tell them if we can’t drive to activities then unfortunately, we won’t travel long distance or I have to resign. You’ve been with them for 6 years, so I highly doubt they will let you go over something so minor but if they do, you shouldn’t want to work for them anyway. The way this heat has been lately, it too hot to be walking a mile pushing Shaquille O’neal and a 3 year old. I’m surprised you’ve lasted this long. |
