| The family I nanny for is asking for me to go on vacation with them. I make salary but they wanted to know how much it'll be for those extra days; I'm not sure what to respond to that. Should it be an hourly rate (what I normally charge for babysitting) or a daily rate? |
| Hourly for sure. |
| Of course they cover all your expenses, and your private room. |
| I actually might do a daily rate if you're otherwise salaried, with a set number of hours included each day. Hourly seems like it could be a pain to keep track of, and unless it's a vacation you're really itching to go on anyway, I'd want guaranteed hours for the days you'll be there. |
Maybe something to consider, but ONLY if they give you a pre-set MAX number of hours for any one day. You need to be very careful about this. Not always, but most of the time, the family vacations are hell for the nanny. |
| I charge hourly (OT applies) and typically do not allow for switching of hours. I will work any extra and am guaranteed to work my normal hours for every day I am there. Now, if we’re going to France or somewhere I would be more excited about, I may be a little more flexible. I also charge an overnight fee of $50 for being there and $100 if I am in charge (on call). I fee like my overnight rate is on the low end of the spectrum. Lastly, all accommodations as well as food is covered. They also will cover the cost of an Uber if no vehicle is available. |
Plus OT. THIS IS NOT A VACATION FOR YOU! |
| You should figure out how much you need to make in addition to your regular pay to make it worthwhile to you. If the answer is that you'd rather just get your pay and stay home, then you might point out to them that hiring someone local just for the hours they need her would likely be less than the cost of your travel expenses + OT + overnight fee. |
| In the past I say no. Most parents have wanted me to work my normal hours and switch some around for a few days nights. No extra pay |
| I charge a flat rate of $400 a day or any portion of a day plus all expenses, of course. I do share a room with my charge. |
Same. It is not great but I am not paying for gas or food for the time we are away so it comes to more. |
|
I hate traveling w/my NF.
For all I give up, it does not seem worth it to me. |
| wow, that's expensive. We have toyed with the idea of asking our nanny to come on vacation with us. We thought we would pay all expenses and maybe a little extra per day but $400 a day is like, wow, no way! |
That’s on the high end, not every manny charges a daily rate, but it will (and should) cost you extra tickets have nanny accompany you on vacation. |
Normal hourly rate for all hours with kids or a flat rate that she states (400/24=16.67, which is a bargain!), room, and food are the minimums. |
