I am working with a family almost two years. I work 32 hours not any other benefits. Just one week of vacation.
Can I ask them for paid federal holidays? Thanks |
| Yes, if they fall on your work day. |
| Can you please tell me how I could bring the topic politely? I don’t want to lose my job. |
| Are the parents off for federal holidays? My employers are not. |
| The wife don’t work and husband work from home mostly. Thanks |
| At your next anniversary/review, simply say that you would like paid federal holidays to be a part of your contract. |
| It was September 2017. So do I have to wait till September 2018? We didn’t write any contract |
| Did you get a raise in September 2017? Are you working legally and on the books? You could ask for the holidays instead of a raise next year. Since have no contract, you are negotiating from nothing. Some nannies will advise you to quit and start fresh with a new family and a contract, but maybe everything is going well for you so you have to decide. Most nannies get some holidays (not necessarily all federal holidays) and more vacation (2 -3 weeks) and a few sick days. However, it could be that your hourly rate makes up for it. |

Yes I got raise on Sep. not any other benefits.
Thanks |
| Which holidays do you get now? |
| Only Christmas and Thanksgiving (if the family travel) if no then I have to work. |

OP, you are a poorly paid servant. Find a new job and get someone to help you with a contract. Get that contract signed with guaranteed hours, Federal holidays off with pay, two weeks paid vacation and one of your choice. All hours worked over 40 are paid OT. Your minimum hourly wage should be no less than $18/hr. Once you have a new job, give these cretins you now work for a maximum of two weeks notice.
You need assertiveness training and someone to teach you how to look out for yourself. |
But OP, are you legal and paid on the books? I don't think you have made that clear. You must be legal and pay taxes to expect the benefits that other nannies get. Otherwise you and the HF are conspiring together and it's not going to work out well for you. |
| Thanks for your reply yes I am legal and pay taxes as well. |

I am trying my best to find another job so I could write agreement with them before I will start position.
Btw, I don’t want to leave current family but they are not wroth it. |
