Anyone have any experience (or can recommend a particular agency) with finding Hebrew-speaking Au Pairs in DC/MoCo? |
You can look at APIA...they source from Israel.
I don't know any other agencies...but you could look for Jewish / Hebrew speaking APs from other countries. Your matching specialist might be able to help with this. |
The only agency I know that has Israeli au pairs is APIA.
However Israeli au pairs have bad track record in terms of rematch My family is observant Jewish and we have been with a bunch of agencies and I pay attention to that. We have been hosting over ten years and I have never seen any other Hebrew speaking au pairs, except right now there is an available candidate from Mexico on the GoAuPair site that lists Hebrew as one of her languages. I am not in matching now so cannot see her full profile but I think she may be Jewish. |
Can you expand upon the "bad track record" comment? Do they get homesick and leave early? Have trouble acclimating and request rematch? We are semi-observant Israeli/American family - but will provide in-law suite with kosher kitchen for au pair and probably not require any hours from Friday late morning through Sunday morning/holidays. so the level of observance of the au pair is not a great concern to us. |
When I was with APIA the local coordinator said they often go into rematch and I thought it meant families are not too happy with them, or they may have different expectations of their time here. When I was matching I spoke to a couple and they were very choosy. One specifically didn't want a Jewish family. I knew one here, she was a friend of my party animal au pair at the time and was also a party animal. However I don't like stereotyping and think it all depends on an individual. This may inform your interviewing and what to look for. |
I have an Israeli au pair who is fantastic. There are at least three in our APIA cluster. |
When I called I was told you cannot request an auto pair from your home country. This is supposed to be cultural exchange
|
Is that true for all agencies? Can you request an AP speak their native language exclusively with the kids? |
BS. There’s no “requesting.” You either match thru the website or you don’t. |
My Israeli au pair spoke exclusively to kids in Hebrew. |
We knew several people who matched with APs from their home country. |
LOL. Troll poster is back....subtle yet primitively entertaining. |
You can request, but those APs often end up in rematch. They're here because they often want to improve their English. |
You need to make it clear during the interview process. Many people choose the au pair program for the very reason that the children are absorbing the culture of the caregiver. The caregiver is being exposed to English through interaction at the local cafe, post office, compulsory education courses, etc., and if she wants, speaking to the parents in English. We weeded out caregivers who didn't want to speak target language to children. Some caregivers prefer to be with families who also speak their native language on a comfort level. So long as both the family and caregiver are open about their expectations - a rematch on this basis is unlikely. |
OMG. Just go away. You clearly have no idea what you are talking about. |
