I am tired and don't want to be stuck in another hotel room with a toddler. Yes, I get paid well for travel days but we've already traveled so much this year that even a trip to paradise is more than I can handle. I feel like I never get to put my suitcase away!!!
Ugh.., a high class problem, I know but... why can't we just stay home?! |
| Sounds like this is a 1-year job for you. Just count the money, and plan on something easier next year. |
|
Yeah that must suck to get to travel around and not have to pay for the ticket/room and board/meals.
How awful |
You sound like someone who has never worked for a high-net-worth family. Keep your sarcasm as you have NO idea. |
Actually it does suck. Being with a toddler day and night is not conducive to sight-seeing or relaxing. I am working harder than I do at home and it is NOT my vacation - it is my employers. She is out of her element and routine. Last month when we were in London, she insisted on sleeping in bed with me - which meant that I had to go to bed at her bedtime so she wouldn't fall out of bed. Then, because she was scared of the shadows in the room, she had to sleep on top of me every time she woke up. When we were in Costa Rica in March, the baby got a raging ear infection. It is not fun. Trust me. |
I have been with them for two years already and truly love my charge. Aside from the travel, it is a great job with wonderful employers. I am just venting about another airplane, another hotel room with a toddler, and my sleepless nights away from my own home. |
| I HATE going on vacation with my NF. Luckily we only go once a year - I hear you, OP. It sucks. |

As a mom, this is so sad to me. I'm the first name my boys call out when scared. Im the person they come to when they think monsters are in their room and Id never dream of bringing our nanny on vacation because i look forward to being alone and connecting with my family. To me that's thr actual POINT of travel. |
Without a nanny, the time away is a trip and not a vacation. With a nanny, DH and I get a true vacation (sleeping late, going out at night - couple time) while spending the time with our DD. DD is so comfortable and secure with nanny, that she would be comforted by nanny holding her if she woke up. Chasing monsters out of her room is my job every night we are home - nanny handles it when we are on vacation. |

I bet your kid when given the choice (like on vacation) turns to the nanny first for comfort. Not unusual for people who outsource their parenting, just an observation. |
Curious--how much do you pay her for the night hours? Is it a flat fee or an hourly rate or what? |
No, my child loves her nanny but always turns to me. Don't be so insecure, PP. |
Nanny gets a Travel Day flat rate. $400 a day. |
