Inviting someone else's nanny? RSS feed

My DD is nearly two-years-old and we have been in the same music class with another little girl and her nanny since the kids were six-months-old. This nanny is a lovely older woman who has had us to her employers house a few times for playdates and got us into a wonderful art class that I never knew about. I have met the parents a few times but don't really know them although I would like to.

We are having a birthday party for my DD and I invited the little girl and her parents. Should I have invited the little girl's nanny as well since I actually know her?

I think it would be nice to treat the nanny like an actual human being and invite her. She is the one that you actually have known for 1.5 years - not the parents.

I think you invite the little girl, and whichever grownups can come with her. I would assume that during the week, it would be the nanny.

If it's on the weekend, I would only invite the nanny separately if you personally have formed a friendship with her. But if you had, then you probably would have invited her naturally.

I am a Nanny & have been in this situation a few times.

I have met many of the parents of my charge’s friends, yet they typically do not know my charge’s parents since I am usually w/him during the day.

When my charge’s friends have birthday parties, their parents have typically invited me + my charge since they already know me so well.

My bosses typically would not attend probably because they would feel uncomfortable since they wouldn’t know anyone at the party.

I'm a nanny and I'm never offended when I am invited or included. I can choose to attend or not. I'm also not offended if I'm not invited or included depending on the context. OP do what feels right in your heart and you can't go wrong.

Are you saying that, under normal working circumstances, MBs treat their nannies as subhuman?

Clearly. OP doesn't know if she should invite the nanny.

No, OP doesn't know if the nanny feels friendly towards her and her child, or if she's just part of the nanny's work life and the nanny would rather not be bothered with a party on her free time.

Nannies, being human beings, are capable of RSVPing "no". Nannies can do many amazing things, PP, like speak, think, feel and respond. Why, nannies are almost like real people!!!!!
