| My MB is pregnant. When the new baby is born my current charge will be a little over 2. How much of a raise would you expect in this situation? |
| One to two dollars per hour increase. |
+1 And I would definitely demand $2 with an older child that young. |
|
At least a $3-4/hour increase for the additional care of a newborn, if you're qualified and experienced with babies.
If they think you should do all that extra work for only $1-2/hour, I'd line up a new job. Babies are a ton of work and responsibility. You should be compensated accordingly. |
|
I agree that $3-4/Hr extra.
Babies ARE a ton since they need to have everything done for them like an invalid. I.e., Frequent feedings/burps, poopy diapers, constant supervision + entertainment. No way would a buck or two extra be enough of a pay increase. |
|
If you expect $3-4/hr you will almost certainly be disappointed.
No employer is likely to bump pay that significantly. Whether or not that level of increase is appropriate is an opinion, not a statement of what is typical or likely (or achievable) in a typical nanny/employer relationship. |
Agreed. Plus, why do people expect that much more for an infant? So you then lower your salary when they are toddlers? |
| I gave $1 an hour for a raise. I also gave a bonus. |
For a newborn? You're nuts. |
Toddlers are even more work than infants. |
| This can be tricky. I wouldn't go less than $3. $1 for an additional child is absurd! Especially if both children are under the age of 4. Infants/toddlers are a lot of work and require supervision around the clock. |
| I can't be bothered with parents who want to cheap out on their childcare. |
|
$1 if the youngest child is at least in kindergarten. $2 if the youngest child is 37 months to summer before kindergarten. $3 per hour if the youngest child is 19-36 months old. $4 per hour if the youngest child is 12-18 months old. 1.5 times the rate for expecting twins.
However, that is my scale, not anyone else's, and I prefer 2+ children. |

RETWEET! Toddlers are a handful and when they just begin walking and it's multiples.. hello coffee, heat and ice pack for my back! We need more nannies to speak up and demand a decent amount pay for nurturing, teaching and loving their children. Working with children and parents (multiple adults) is NOT easy! |
