Why do MBS stop appreciating their nanny? RSS feed

I see it with mine, she always used to thank me profusely, made sure the house was tidy so I didn't have to clear up after them all and used to send me emails saying how great I am with her DD. Now all that seems to be sliding and I never know if she wants me as a nanny for her family or not. Should I be worried MBS?

I'm five years in, and haven't stopped.

But I've always been low on verbal praise. Couple times a year, yes. But that's it. To me it seems like a verbal tip - and everyone knows a waiter would rather get a monetary tip than a verbal one.

It's like any relationship. After a while the niceties stop or slow down.

You compare your nanny to a waiter? You must be a joy to work for.

There's definitely truth in this.

And it's also possible that things are slipping on both sides. If you and your employer are not having regular conversations about how things are going then it's possible that things aren't as great as they used to be. It's worth checking in to make sure.

No, I compare giving monetary tips rather than verbal tips to my nanny, someone who provides a service rather than a product, to giving monetary tips rather than verbal tips to a waiter, also someone who provides a service rather than a product.

Nanny here. I think they stop appreciating their nanny because at some point they miss their kids during the day and they realize the kids get attached to the nanny.
Throw in how much nannies cost ...

I think it's just the way most human relationships operate.

You are posting a lot, OP. Maybe you need to find another job.

Why does my nanny never smile or greet anyone when she arrives in the morning? Or say good-bye when we do and leave for work?

Because you hired a rude nanny.

I can't think of the last time my nanny said thank you for the employment. Maybe thanks when I called and offered the job? I think as an employer both of nannies and other employees, people get very excited when they are hired but from that moment they forget how many people are waiting in line for the jobs and falsely consider themselves irreplaceable.
