| Newly pregnant and I know I'll be going back to work after maternity. I can price out daycares, but I have no clue the cost (range) of a nanny (not live in), so I don't know if it's an option for us financially. Could you share your monthly cost for a nanny? |
| Where are you located? |
| Arlington |
| Also- how many hours? over 40 hours is 1.5x hourly rate. are you willing to do a nanny share? you could be looking at $10/ hr (nanny share) to $25/ hr (super experienced private nanny). If you are paying taxes and/or want a payroll service- that is an additional cost. |
| 40 hours a week and I assume I'll have to cover taxes and other benefits? I'd be ok with a nanny or nanny share. |
|
are you in North Arlington? If so join MONA. You will get access to their nanny survey as well as many many other resources.
This site tends to give wildly inflated costs for nannies. |
|
For nanny you would be looking around $4,000-$4,500
For a nanny share you would be looking at $2,500-$3,000 This is monthly, including experienced nanny, time and a half, and benefits. |
| I doubt a good nanny is within your budget, OP. Find a good daycare. |
| Look at the Daycare Forum, OP. A nanny isn't in the cards for your baby. |
What ? Who says such a thing. Your looking at anywhere from 18-25 per hr op. Nanny shares are less but also more stressful. |
|
OP here. Thank you for the financial assumptions.
And, truly, thank you to those who actually answered my question. I don't have any friends or coworkers with young children so I truely had no clue and now can figure out the best option for us. |
| I am sorry, OP, but if you have to ask, you cannot afford a nanny. I'm sure you found some nice daycares while you were pricing them out. |
| You'll are rude. You don't know what she can afford. She is a first time mom. |
Sorry OP for these plain rude responses.
I do not have an answer to your question but just wanted to say I am absolutely appalled by half of your responses. So rude AND highly uncalled for. You asked a legit question & you got flamed.... |
| Don't pay more than $15/hr if you only have one kid. |
