My job:
Job 1: I am night time nanny for a 17 months old boy. My working hour is from 7.30pm to 8.30 am. 8.30 am to 6 pm he go to daycare. Job 2: From 9 am to 5.30 pm I am a full time nanny for a 2 months old newborn baby. Today the 17 months old boy is sick and the daycare call me to come and pick him up. I told them I cannot pick him up because I'm working with the 2 months old. The daycare said they will call the Police because they cannot have sick baby with them. This 17 mths boy's parents is in oversea right now. Now I need to call the newborn mom and tell her my situation. She will be so mad because she just start back to work. Pls advice me. I am MAD because I told the 17 mths baby's mom that daycare will bring lots of sickness! Thank you |
| You must get that child from daycare. If the parents are over seas you are the parent right now |
| This is crazy! Someone has to have responsibility for this boy while the parents are gone. If it's you, you have to go get him. |
| You're getting fired from the newborn job, btw. |
Yep. OP, were the parents paying you to be "on call" while they were out of town? They should have had someone designated as the person to be responsible for him in case of an emergency. If it's you, they should have been paying you for that. |
|
why don't the parents have a back up plan for daytime care?
do they know you have a day job? did they ever discuss with you being on call during the day? probably not. tell overseas parents to have a neighbor or grandma pick up kid. you can't bring sick toddler in with 2 mo old baby. or see if you have neighbor or friend to pick up baby and they can charge parents whatever they want. stupid situation for both of you |
The two month old's parents had already contracted with OP and are paying her for the daytime hours. Why should these parents have to pay the neighbor or friend "whatever they want" to charge? The 17 month old's parents were the irresponsible ones. OP should remain with the two month old, that is who she is responsible for. Not the 17 month old. If the daycare needs to call the police, that is their business. CPS will get involved, 17 month old will get an emergency foster care home, and maybe parents will learn their lesson. OP, did either of these families KNOW that you had two nannying jobs? |
Are you daft?? Obviously they meant the parents of the 17 month old should pay, not the parents of the 2 month old. |
. Hmmm maybe I am daft, because it doesn't seem obvious to me. |

OP here,
I'm so glad that the newborn mom not angry at me. She said its not my fault. She understand that sometimes thing happened. I called the other parents and they said they will pay me. I'm taking the boy to the doctor now. Thanks everyone! |
No. We will talk about this issue when they come back tomorrow morning. |
| OP, they need to have a plan in place in the future--relatives, SAHMs in the area, backup service, whatever. But they need to have a backup plan for times when they are out of town. Your newborn mom was nice this time but this is still a huge black mark against you and you may be fired over it if it happens again! |
| I'm so confused. OP, if you don't start with the 17 month old til 7.30 pm, but daycare is until 6... Who has the child in the remaining hour and a half?! |
I wondered about this, too. |
This poor 17 month old kid! I can't believe they left him with no backup and no family around. He's lucky to have you. Grrr, this makes me so upset!
Your newborn MB sounds awesome, though! She's a keeper. |
