Who leaves their toddler with someone not responsible for the child 24/7 to go overseas? Incredible. This is not your fault OP but the question about having backup for illness or an emergency should have been asked by at least one adult involved.

Nannies work with sick kids. That's one of the reasons parents hire nannies instead of sending kids to daycare

Why are you a night nanny for a child this old? Is it because the parents work at night or for sleep issues? Sorry for my ignorance I've only heard of night nannies for infants that don't sleep through the night yet.

The child's parents are out of the country. Clearly a 17 month old does not stay alone at night, so they had to hire someone.
