DD is 17 months old and we buy bottled water for her so she doesn't get the fluoride in tap water. We hired a new nanny recently and she drinks the bottled water. We used to buy a case of bottled water every two months and since the nanny started, the case lasts us two weeks tops. My issue isn't about the cost, which is really minor, it's about the hassle. We don't have a car so order our bottled water online and as it's pretty much the only thing we need from this vendor, I am placing all of these additional orders (like 5 times versus once every two months) for all the extra water. We have space issues so can't stock up on cases of water, even having one case is inconvenient. And I guess it's annoying that I'm going through this trouble so the nanny can drink bottled water when DH and I choose to drink tap because of the space issue/convenience not to mention it's free. I feel like I can't mention this to the nanny because it sounds so petty, but I also would like to stop dealing with this. I can store the bottled water in our bedroom so she doesn't have access to it and just prepare DD's water bottle every day, but feel silly even thinking about this... WWYD?

There are tons of people that don't drink tap water no matter how clean or safe the city may say it is. My family constantly buys cases of bottled water and even us it to make coffee. I think the more economical thing to do is buy a filter for the faucet or one attached to the jug and keep in the fridge, this is what I do at home. Not to mention it's pretty rare that double door fridges don't have filters nowadays.

When I first started with this family I wanted to use the filter on the fridge then realized they didn't have the water line hooked up and mb told me to drink as many bottles as I wanted. I drink at least 3 per day.

You need to let her know that the bottled water is for the baby and install a tap filter. There is all sorts of stuff in the water you shouldn't be consuming yourself and sometimes people just find it disgusting.

This is very petty if you haven't even mentioned it

mI'm really curious, what's wrong with flouride? It's good for their teeth. Bottled water is terrible for the environment. Can you get one of those big coolers with the jugs? Just tell the nanny the water is for the baby. She probably doesn't realize it.

Let it go, OP. For God's sake, you sound like such a nitpicker. ORDER MORE WATER and thank your lucky stars you got a good nanny other than her horrific water-drinking problem.

MB here.

Problem solved! I totally didn't think of getting a tap filter. I asked her if she was okay drinking Brita water and she said sure!

Some people think that fluoride is linked to myriad health problems. I'm not one of those people as I've done no research on it. I do remember hearing that if a baby drinks too much fluoridated tap water, it can lead to spots on their teeth. If that is the case, I would rather hold off on giving DD tap water until she is a little older. Plus, I hear that topical fluoride, i.e., toothpaste, is much better for our teeth than ingesting it while being less likely to cause health problems (if at all) because you spit it out. At 18 months, she's still too young for regular toothpaste so that will have to wait, too. And you're right, nanny had no idea the water was for DD!

Let it go or ask her not to?

How is that hard?

Great to be of service lol.

One of my former employers is convinced that fluoride is a poison added to water to kill bacteria on teeth, and that it causes gastrointestinal issues. Okay, so he bought jugs of water. I didn't say anything, of course, because I don't care if I drink filtered or "spring" water. But it did make me wonder where he got his information and why he would believe that governments were trying to kill their citizens with fluoride.

Fluoride is safer than all the chemicals you are exposing her to from the plastic in your bottled water. You have no idea what extreme temperatures the bottled water is exposed to before it is delivered to your local store or door.

In all honesty, your Nanny may not be aware of the hassle & inconvenience of having to always make sure there is always enough water on hand.

You can try mentioning it to her in a tactful manner.
"Nanny Franny, you would have no reason to have known this beforehand however we prefer to use the bottled water for baby only since we don't want her drinking tap water at this age due to the inclusion of floridation. Not having a vehicle and all, we have to order it online which in itself can be a hassle so the hubby + I tend to drink tap to make things easier.
If you don't really like the taste of plain tap, we have some lemons in the refrigerator for you to add or you are more than welcome to the pitcher of iced tea in there as well.
Thank you for understanding."

Or if you dread confrontation, you can always hide it somewhere such as your bedroom closet.

Sure would beat having to place multiple water orders!

I am a former nanny and it reminds me of a MB who once asked me to stop drinking her San Pellegrino and drink tap water instead ... She had told me to help myself in the fridge, I didn't think it was a problem to drink her water.
It wasn't a matter of space or money (in my opinion, but maybe it was for her) and I wasn't drinking a full bottle a day, maybe a glass or two. But she got annoyed by it so I stopped and let it go.

Just amazing. And so sad.

I think it was petty from her but I let it go as it wasn't important to me.
