We have a nanny that wants to get paid every Friday. However, our payroll service needs 2 days lag time to process payment. That means, she gets paid the following Wednesday for the prior M-F week. The nanny really wants to be paid on Fridays, though, for the prior week. Our hours vary week to week so paying prospectively might not work (unless this situation forces us to have set hours). We thought about paying hours prospectively, but then we wondered what would happen iif she runs out of sick days? Couldn't it get messy? |
I got paid every Friday through Breedlove |
Pp to add the first week however I didn't get paid while everything processed but after that week in the hole every Friday at 6am my money was in my account from the previous week |
Don't pay prospectively. That's a mess.
Honestly, that's just the way it is. She can get paid on wednesdays for the prior week, or, if she really wants a Friday check, it can be for the week prior. I never got to pick my pay day at any job from hourly, high school work to my current salaried position. |
Get a new payroll company. They don't need two days of lag time, except to hold your money. I would not allow that. |
MB here. If your hours vary week to week then there is no service that I know of that can turn around automatic payment any faster than what you're getting.
The only alternative would be for you to handwrite her a check every Friday. Frankly, I think being paid on the following Wednesday ought to be sufficient, but that isn't my call. I absolutely would not pay her prospectively - essentially advancing her time (leave or pay). That is basically a loan and yes, you're right - it can get very messy. |
Our nanny is paid Fridays but for the prior week. It was her choice -- paper check Friday for that week or direct deposit for the week prior. |
I get paid on Wednesdays for the prior week. It's never been an issue but I'm not hurting for money. |
With GTM Payroll Services, you submit your nanny's hours on Monday for the previous week. Your nanny gets paid by check or direct deposit on Friday. If you have set hours, then you don't need to do a thing. It automatically processes. |
This. All employment pays for hours worked on a lag - and it is usually a week, not 3 business days. You cannot report your hours on Friday and presto magic have a direct deposit appear in her bank the same day. Maybe she is used to being paid cash off the books, and doesn't understand the process. If she worked at Target or McDonalds it would be on a lag too. |
OP here. I think she's used to all her prior nanny jobs direct depositing on Friday for the week she just worked. I explained again this morning that this is the way our payroll company works and she seemed very disappointed. She literally can't wait two extra days, she says. |
When I started I got paid the first time the second Friday that I worked for the week before, then every other week since then. So my first check was for one week and ever since it is for two weeks. Sure I had to wait, but that is normal. I had some side babysitting jobs when I was looking for work, so I had something coming in. I get my pay direct deposited by HWS payroll. Getting paid legal is worth a little wait, between jobs unemployment was a Godsend for those 4 weeks. |
What is GTM doing with your money during such a long lag time? Earning interest. ![]() |
The payroll amount comes out of an account (like a checking account) that you specify. It's not money held by GTM so no interest earned. |
With GTM, they need time to process the amount for transfer. Money does not come out of my account until it is paid to nanny (and for taxes) on Friday. |
