Overtime increments

| Everyday I'm home by 5:40 pm, and our nanny's work day ends at 6:00 pm. Today, thanks to work stuff and traffic, I didn't get home until 6:00 pm on the dot. I texted her at 4:00 pm to let her know it would be a possibility. I pay on the books with legal overtime. Should I give her 10 or 15 minutes additional overtime for my late arrival? |

Heck no you don't need to pay overtime. The nanny's day ends at 6. You were home at 6. If you pay overtime because for once in a blue moon you got home right at quitting time, then she might start thinking that 5:40 must be her quitting time since you usually show up at that time. Then she will start wanting her palm to be greased every time you get home at 5:45. I am a nanny. |

| Every couple of months I hand my nanny a $50 Walmart gift card (that's where she goes b/c it's closest to her apartment). It's just a "thank you" for the occasional crazier-than-usual day. |

If her scheduled work day ends at 6PM, then no OT is required or should be expected.
Basically it evens out in your Nanny's favor that she is getting the last 1/3 hour for free.... |
