Everyday I'm home by 5:40 pm, and our nanny's work day ends at 6:00 pm. Today, thanks to work stuff and traffic, I didn't get home until 6:00 pm on the dot. I texted her at 4:00 pm to let her know it would be a possibility. I pay on the books with legal overtime. Should I give her 10 or 15 minutes additional overtime for my late arrival?
Heck no you don't need to pay overtime. The nanny's day ends at 6. You were home at 6. If you pay overtime because for once in a blue moon you got home right at quitting time, then she might start thinking that 5:40 must be her quitting time since you usually show up at that time. Then she will start wanting her palm to be greased every time you get home at 5:45. I am a nanny.
