Credit Card for Nanny RSS feed

For those that give a nanny a credit card, do you get a card in the Nanny's name? Do you use an account that she only can use or do you just get an extra card from one of your existing accounts. We trust our nanny 100% she has been with us several years, but as the kids are getting older she is doing more shopping and stuff outside the home so a credit card will be useful for her to have.

We did this recently. We added a card in her name to our existing account. We could do it online easily with her name and SSN. Her name is on the card and it has a unique number, but it's tied to our account (so we get the points) and controlled by us limit-wise. We put a $200 monthly limit on it and have alerts for spending. Works great.

Note: if your nanny uses the card to get gas, gas stations put a $100 hold charge on as soon as you access the pump, so you may immediately get a spending alert when that happens. This alarmed me the first time, so passing it on.

Us too. Her spending limit is higher ($700 - she does a lot of shopping for us) but it is just an add-on to my account with her spending broken out, so I can eyeball it and would pick up on any irregularities. I had to call and ask my credit card company about it 4-5 years ago, because they didn't want to have to set a separate credit limit for her, but when I threatened to cancel my account altogether they figured out how to do it!
