QUESTIONS FOR THOSE WHO HIRE NANNYS? RSS feed

Anonymous
I read that we have some very generous employers.

Some employers pay their nanny the following:

Benefits package, so I am thinking that these nannies make about 60-70K per a year. My questions to the employer is what is your annual income??

Is the employer household income over 500K?? looking for some candid answers. thanks

Most of you here can't really afford a decent nanny.

We earn about $150K as a family, but health care and housing is fully covered (military).

We are using savings to pay part of our nanny's salary. It comes to right about 55K a year including our portion of taxes and such. I WAH, though, so we only need 40 hrs/wk. It's the overtime that pushes the salaries much higher.

Our household income is just over 300k.

The total cost to us for our nanny is approximately 55k (inclusive of taxes, etc...)

Seven figures between two salaries and RE investments and interest.

Almost two million before tax, much less after...

About 220k. Nanny will get $40k after everything. Vacation and paid sick and holidays.

That your fault, paying your nanny $26/hr+ is absurd.

She makes $19/hr. Then there are taxes, UI, worker's comp, and some overtime.

And bonuses, Christmas, birthday, and other gifts. $55K covers it all.

We have a nanny share, so we split with 1 other family. Our nanny makes around $60K a year, PTO, sick time & health insurance. We also pay taxes/UI above board.

And no, we don't earn anywhere close to what you cited. Cut your lowest estimate in half.

I respect parents who value the best child care they can find.

My child's care and private education has always been our biggest expense after the mortgage.

Childcare is expensive. I don't live in DC, and it costs us about $40k/yr to employ our nanny, bonuses, our share of the taxes, etc. She works a little less than 40 hours/wk. Our HHI is about $350k.

But when we were in residency and had a HHI of $80k, it still cost us $25k/yr to have two kids in daycare. I am sure it is significantly more in DC. I have no idea how people do it.

Duel career parents with decent child care is a privilege and a luxury in the Washington area.
