I recently purchased a brand-new iPhone to replace my old-school flip phone.

(Don't laugh...!!)

Anyway I currently care for a 2 1/2 yr. old who naps during my 10HR. shift for usually two hours.

I am not required to perform any household duties during my down time, I usually eat my lunch, pick up/organize toys, books & puzzles plus wash any dishes used or sweep up the kitchen floor.

My new phone has a Spotify app which allows me to listen to music during nap time. I always am near the baby monitor and make sure my music is at a volume where I can hear the volume of the monitor. Also I NEVER use earbuds while listening to my songs.

Anyway my daughter told me that listening to my Spotify uses up data from my phone plan & that it would be better if I used the family's WiFi instead.

So I asked my bosses if that would be okay and they told me they would look up the password and get back to me. When I remind them again, they say they will "get on it," then quickly change the subject.

What is the big deal.....??!

Not all passwords are easy. Some are literally like 18 characters with a mix of numbers, and upper and lower case letters. They would seriously need to look it up and wouldn't necessarily have it in a handy place. Or maybe they don't want you using their wifi. One of the two. If they have a computer laying around, you might be able to boot it up and get it from there if you have that kind of relationship.

A computer wouldn't show you the wifi password. Just look on the back of their router.

yeah they do. I've done it. More than once. You just don't know where to look. The password may or may not be the one on the router but it's worth a try.

Yeah I'd just try the one on the router. They said you could use it so nothing wrong with a little self help.

Mine does, if you know where to look. And because I can copy/paste to open on my phone using data before switching to wifi, it works better because there is zero chance of transposed digits.

Ours is a 50 character randomized lower case / upper case/ numbers code. Not on the back of our router. Huge pain to share.

I copied ours of the router and stuck it on a name label on the keyboard. Anyone who is a guest in our home can use it.

Well that was a dumb decision.

Why? How many people do you think have guessed our PW?

lol not necessary for that goal

I'd ask again. Our is the default super long password that came with the router -- it means I have to go to the basement and look at the back of the router to get it. I can see me forgetting to do this. Maybe also just ask if you can look at the router yourself or come early tomorrow so she can run and do it while you're there -- that's really what I would prefer my nanny to do.

No one can guess mine either, and it's also one I can remember. What are doing that's so top secret you need better security than Apple?

If they quickly changed the subject when you reminded them about it, my guess is they are uncomfortable with giving you the wifi code. They might be worried that you'll not only listen to music, but start browsing the internet from your phone. And maybe just during naps at first, but who's to stop you from looking at your phone while he's awake? I know a lot of parents are okay with nannies surfing the web during naps, but it depends on their trust level. In general, I wouldn't mind a nanny listening to music during my kid's naps, but our current nanny sometimes takes a while to hear her wake up (hearing problems??) and I really don't want to make this any worse. That's a special case, though.
