Agencies guess what, nannies do not need you RSS feed

For so many years nanny agencies have had control over a nannies future, we needed you to get employed. I just love when agencies say they want candidates to impress them, make them like you. Agencies are losing awesome candidates with their superior attitude and making it about them. The good news for nannies is they do not have to grovel at the agencies feet and they do not have to feel less of a person because that agency did not make them the favorite.

Thank you to online for growing and giving nannies the chance to meet the employers and impressing them as they are the ones that hire us. Nannies you are no longer the product sold. Yes there are some good agencies but remember we are the ones that get the job so you can make a sale.

Nannies what are some of your negative experiences with agencies?

Oh my, I should write a book entitled,
"The Dirty Secrets of Nanny Agencies".

I've seen some of the most prominent nanny agencies behave in ways that should put them in jail.

But yes, this thread should be interesting.

Why don't you start us off, OP and PP? You have some firm beliefs but asked for anecdotes. Are you writing an article? What are you gathering this (negative) information for?

Clear thinking people tend to develop "beliefs" based on real life experiences. Stop being so defensive. If you believe you're one of the few good agencies, you really should help weed out the bad ones, or at least expose them for what they are. Or are you one of the bad agencies afraid of getting exposed?

I am not in any way affiliated with any nanny agencies - as an owner, employee, or as a nanny placed by one. I have fewer than zero dogs in this fight. But you've asked people to share specifically negative experiences and so I asked why. You didn't say, "This happened to me at an agency, is this common?" or anything resembling an honest question; you're gathering information. I'm curious as to why.

$10 says you want to write a blog/article slamming agencies and want some free anecdotes to include. Otherwise, why not share your own?

OP here

Was looking to give nannies a chance to express their thoughts concerning agencies on a safe platform. Not so much looking to write an article slamming agencies but perhaps give them a wake-up call. So often I see agencies slamming online nanny services then turn around and put up a job they have. If agencies are resorting to filling their positions using online I ask why, sense they always advertise how they have a large pool of quality nannies. Agencies also like to boast that they weed out 80% or more of applicants but I wonder if the 10% nannies they are looking for do not want anything to do with them. IMO agencies with a superior attitude are their own worse enemy and will continue to loose out on great nannies, they have no one to blame but themselves. Nannies do not pay the agency so they are not their customer but if they have no nannies in their pool then they will not make a sale.

Nannies have found that they can find their own jobs and do not have a need for agencies thanks to online services and employers can get great nannies and not pay the outrageous agency fees.

So nannies and employers have a win-win and agencies can continue to blame online for taking away their business.

Well said. Right now agencies are doing nothing to attract the best nannies, so they have to settle for mediocre nannies and parents are not impressed. Agencies can kiss their outrageous fees good-bye until they start doing some real work.

?? Truly?? So now to be one of the "best nannies" one needs to merely declare it? I should hope someone claiming to be one of the best in a field that includes teaching children and helping with homework to at least have a grasp of grammar, spelling and math...

Disgruntled? Too bad. The agency gravy train is winding down, and you're mad. Parents and nannies are catching on to your dishonesty and it stinks. We're done with you. Time for you to move on to your next opportunity.

Yes, because anyone who disagrees with you must be from an agency. In fact, there is a huge conspiracy on DCUM lately, all of us "agencies" are trying to discredit independent nannies and bolster our services (I'm a nanny BTW, I'm pretty sure sarcasm goes over your head). You do have an interesting world view...

Which agency would you say does not engage in deceit and deception? Willing to stand by your agency by signing your name and city? I highly doubt it, because posters would most likely share their bad experiences with your not so ethical agency.

OMG you are seriously batshit crazy...maybe have your meds checked, I don't think they are working.

I am an INDEPENDENT nanny working in Chicago. I have never needed to work for an agency. I am just over you coming on here and ranting about nothing while not even bothering to do it with any semblance of clear thought, proofreading, or logic.

Why are you here if you admit to having no clue about agencies?

The disgruntled agency owner woman got caught up in her own 'stories', so she left in a huff. Always happens like that sooner or later.
