| For all the MBs and DBs reading this I really hope you know how much it sucks having to ask for my check every single payday and you going "Oh I forgot. Are you sure that's today?" It's so rude and it makes me feel like I'm not valued. How would you feel if your boss just magically forgot to write your check then seem annoyed that you ask? I've had to start asking earlier in the day because if I wait till the time I'm supposed to leave it's a big ordeal. She can't find the checkbook, she chats, she has to look at the last time she wrote my check. Wasting 20min of my time. I really really hate asking for my check. Just write it out the night before and leave it out for me. Is that so hard? |
| Oh my God!! I so agree with you OP. It irritates the living hell out of me every pay day. I hold up my end of the deal every day, all you have to remember is to write a freakin check every two weeks. Put a damn reminder in your phone. Don't make me feel like I'm putting you out in order to get paid. It's degrading and makes me feel like shit. |
| You need to find a new job. This, by the way, is a valid reason for quitting and collecting unemployment. You need to have a sitvdiwn meeting with both parents and tell them. This is unacceptable and you now want automatic deposit. |
This. They can choose to do a bank transfer or set up payroll through a company. Either way, you will be paid on time or they need to find a new nanny and you need to find a new job. |
| That's so awkward and irresponsible on their part. |

MB here and I agree that's absurd. It's also extremely unprofessional and rude.
Request direct deposit and it will be solved. If you have guaranteed hours then it's quite easy to set up a fully automated system that debits the money from the employer account and credits it to you. Even if you don't have guaranteed hours there are payroll services that will make it easier for you and your employer to manage this (and that will have built in prompts to your employer so you don't have to nap.) I think it's inexcusable to do this to an employee. |
We solved that problem by getting a nanny payroll company - Homework Solutions - last year. I get a text to tell me my direct deposit went in every other week like clockwork. Only issue is making sure MB calls in overtime when it happens - that has been late by a paycheck twice because she forgot. So now I email the lady that does the payroll with my OT and copy MB - MB then just sends a short Yes that is right reply and problem solved. A few weeks ago MB mentioned to me she didn't know why she didn't do this two years ago, it is so simple and she doesn't miss getting forms done on time. |
Not OP, but I've tried this. They don't want to pay the expense of using a payroll company, and obviously my paycheck isn't a high priority or they could have found plenty of other solutions. As a warning to other employers, I'm quitting due in part to this and other issues. Treat your nanny like this is her JOB, because it is. She shouldn't have to ask for the money you owe her. |
| At the beginning of the day give whomever is home a reminder that today is payday. If that doesn't work ask for a direct deposit to be set up. If they don't want to do that explain to them that it seems to be problematic to receive your paycheck and that you are often having to work late, likely unpaid, in order to receive your check and that the setup is not working for you. Then ask them if they have any ideas or solutions. |
| Ugh. That's so unprofessional of them too. Direct deposit is so easy to set up. |

I guess most of them are like this. My ex MB told me once "I will give you the check tomorrow (Saturday) at the birthday party. At the birthday party she told me "don't forget to ask from my husband abt the check" I wait and wait but they seems so busy with the ppl. I left the party.
On Monday the husband told me "I will give you the check today". At the end of the day he gave me the check. I told him " I'm going to start changing for the late payment" and laugh a little. Darn! |

Me again. With my new family I told them my salary is on the first and on the 15 of the month. I texted them saying "today is my pay day "

I worked for a family that ended up divorcing and every single week I not only had to ask for my check. I had to ask each of them. I would start at moms house ask her for my check. Wait while she ran to the bank every damn week. Watch her count my cash in front of me to the quarter. Then tell me to recount it in front of her. I would then pack the kids up walk to dads house drop them off for the weekend (all after my hours), and do the entire thing over with the dad.
I hated that job so much and hope the parents get what they deserve one day. The little girl was and is the most amazing child I have ever known |
