Hi everyone, I'm a Dc nanny and I need help about the vacations. When I signed the contract we agreed that I gonna have 2 weeks vacation but my surprise is they paid me just 1 week. When I talked to my bosses they said they already paid me 1Week they took by their own.
So my question is how the 2 Weeks vacation work? Do we share it with the family or? |
| Do you have a contract? Many situations are 1 week of your goosing and 1 of theirs. My contract is 2 weeks of my choosing and guaranteed pay for the year. It seems that there was a misunderstanding. I would clear it up and request a contract to hash out all the finer details. This happened to me once, a misunderstanding on what was expected; it didn't end well. |
Sorry, what does your contract say regarding vacations? Any specifics in there at all? Do you have guaranteed hours? |
| Thank you for your answers, yes I have a contract For one year. We were agreed for 5 sick days, holidays and 2 weeks vacation and hadn't use any of My sick days. |
| When is your scheduled last day of work, OP? |
| What do you mean? I spent one year with them and will sign The next contract next Wednesday. |

| Does your contract specify whether 1 week is at their choosing? If not, I'd say they owe you another week of vacation, but they obviously feel you already got it. I'd be prepared to let it go if you are otherwise hapoy, and make sure your next contract specifies, and that they understand that you expect 2 weeks of your OWN vacation. Or if they insist and you are willing, you could agree to share one week and they choose when it is, BUT they give you at least 3 months notice or name the week in the contract so that you can actually plan a vacation during that time. |

What does your contract say, OP? The one we have with our nanny is very specific. There are two weeks vacation, one she chooses and one we choose. We always use our week, so she is paid and that's done. At the end of the year, we agreed that she can roll over a week into the next year. So if she wants to have a two week vacation of her choosing, she can save her week to make that happen. We don't roll over sick days. We want her to use them if she needs to for illness, but they are not extra vacation days. We don't want her to come in sick because she wants to save sick days for vacation. So we structured it as a use it lose it option.
In terms of "pay off vacation", we only pay out unused vacation time at the end of employment. |
