Nannies in the Georgetown area? RSS feed

Hello Nannies!

I have a job offer and I am seriously considering it.
A couple questions.
I have never been to/lived in DC.
Is the Georgetown area nice? Is it a safe area?
Are there many play groups and activities to do with a little girl?
How busy are the roads there? ( I would be driving a child to school )

What is the normal salary in DC for a live in nanny with 2 children ( 47.5 hours a week )

Any advice to someone moving to the DC area for the first time?

Not very safe at all. Very few playgroups as all the people who live there are snobs. If you get anything better than $12an hour you should take it. Less than that and they are treating you poorly. If you end up moving to dc make sure you get a gun permit. Crime is really high.

Georgetown is DC, are you used to urban driving? Are you comfortable with timed restrictions for roads? I would suggest driving the route during the same time you will be driving before you have your charge(s) with you, to get a feel for what traffic patterns will be, especially if you've never dealt with urban driving, or even just DC. I've driven in Houston, Atlanta, Philly and Chicago, but DC is different, not better, not worse, just different.

I can't speak to whether Georgetown is nice or safe. It's DC, there are tons of activities for kids, some within walking distance, some by metro, some that would require driving. A little research (under 5 minutes) and you could have a list of over 20 things to do with a 2 year old.

If it's the family I'm thinking of, they're Brits, not likely to be interested in a nanny with a gun. Please disregard the PP.

Salaries for live-in nannies vary everywhere, based on what the parents feel the position is worth. My personal opinion would be that DC could support $650 or more per week for 47.5 hours.

I'm not the OP but how would you know if they are Brits or not?

I think Georgetown is awesome! driving might be tough, but I bet you can walk most places you'd want to go. There is no metro close to Georgetown. it is a very nice neighborhood with very nice homes. Lots of shopping and restaurants - walkable. I don't know about kids activities, but it is a city, and I am sure there is a ton of stuff. I would totally live in Georgetown if I could.
