We have a terrific nanny, who has been with our 9 month for 3 months. However, after working for 3 months decided to be a SAHM. In our contract we indicated the possibility of future children. Would giving two noticed work? What else do I need to do? Thanks |
Whatever your contract states. If you don't have a contract, 2 weeks or 1 month. |
2 weeks is pretty inconsiderate...ESPECIALLY during the holidays. Would you want her to give you 2 weeks or a month? |

Nobody hires a nanny during the Christmas season. Wait until January and then give her a month. |
But the whole point is that OP wants to stay home with her baby. To keep the nanny longer means the OP is basically waiting around to take care of her own child. That makes no sense. |
Give her a MINIMUM of one month and preferiably TWO months severance. Letting her go in Dec. is a truly dastardly thing to do. |
OP hired this person with the understanding that it would be a longterm position. The nanny could have turned down a longer lasting position in order to work for OP, only to be slapped in the face by being given 2 weeks notice at Christmas time. Nobody is saying OP shouldn't stay home with the baby. She has a responsibility to the person she hired. |
Actually, her first responsibility is to her baby. Keep in mind this person has only worked for three MONTHS. Someone is saying to give her two months notice - that's completely crazy. |
I'm a bit confused here, you have a nanny who is leaving to stay home with her child, yet you don't know how much notice to allow.
Didn't she give you the notice...?? Sorry, just mighty confused here. |

Your post is pretty messy OP, but assuming I'm reading it correctly I would err on the generous side of notice, especially during the holiday season.
I would tell her now and pay her through the end of the year. |

I agree with the first part here. Don't drag this into the holiday time or you will feel like crap. Let her go before December. Give her a weeks notice. If you have enough money pay her a second week but don't require her to come in. |
