I do a lot of walking with my charges, and now I have two who don't speak at all yet. I'm not actively worried, but I do sometimes wonder if, say, I got hit by a car, or had an extremely serious allergic reaction, or an icicle fell on me... my charges won't be able to recite their names and addresses to the police officers. Should I have, like, a note in my pocket saying "this is Jane and John, they live there and their parents are this and that". Am I being insane?
Nannies, do you ever think of this? |
| Yes, you carry pertinent information. Period. |
| I put an index card with emergency numbers and their address in their coat pockets. This is a back of the mind fear of mine as well. |

There are little tags with name address and medical information that you can attach to the stroller or carry with you.
I have those for me and my charge, in case were both injured, the have info on allergies and who to contact. Chances are, if you're getting hit by a car, they will be too, so I like having those with me at all times. |

Thank you, pps, I'm making little laminated cards right now.
|
| Hmm.. if I live. I can tell people things when I wake up. |

Yep; luggage tag on the stroller and parents listed as my In Case of Emergency in my cell.
While on the subject, I request that I have a list with parents' place of work and vehicle type/license plate numbers, so that I can report them missing if they don't come home or something extreme like that. |
go to this website and get help. you must see me how I survive more info there. Em ? |

I have two ICE in my phone, one is ICE (kid) then gives the parent's info, the other is ICE (nanny) and then gives my mother's info. If something happened to the kids and I, I wouldn't trust that my bosses would be calm enough to find my mother's contact info while also trying to get to the hospital.
I carry a first aid kit in the diaper bag, and the diaper bag always went in the rack under the stroller, even for a short walk. Now it's a habit, and it goes with us whenever we go anywhere. A former charge had severe allergies to bee stings and fire ants, and unfortunately neither seemed to care anything about insect repellents. Even once kids are out of diapers, I still carry a small backpack with the first aid kit and other supplies, and it has extra room for library books and other things we pick up throughout the day. The backpack has a luggage tag on the top loop, tucked down against my back while I'm wearing it. Strollers always have a luggage tag in the front next to the child. I insist on medic alert tags for any child with an allergy or other medical condition that an EMT might need to know before treating. In my mind, it's basic preparedness, and one less thing that is likely to go wrong if there's an accident. |
Yikes. Try again in English this time. |
All good ideas, thank you. |

You are not insane at all, because anything in life can happen at any time.
Everyone should have a Plan B., esp. if young children are involved. Before you decide what to do, ask your bosses if it would be okay to insert their contact info onto your person. I see no issue with doing so, but just to be 100% sure, have the parent's consent first. |
