Our nanny of 2 years is leaving. What should we give her?
She lived with us the whole time and we paid her on the higher end of the spectrum. Last week was her last week and she'll be living for free with us until January when she moves in with her boyfriend. She doesn't help with anything but childcare. Thanks for your suggestions. |
| What would she like? You must know her better than we do, no? |
I'm here looking for ideas. Thanks for offering helpful advice. |
| I have no clue. She isn't leaving - she is not going to be taking care of our children but will presumably still see them (and you). Why not wait and give her a gift when she moves out? |
Well, I have 3 months to work on whatever gift we decide to give her then. PS we're going overseas to spend December with family so I actually have less time than that because traveling takes a lot of prep and I don't want to have to worry about finding the gift a day before we travel. Once again thanks for your helpful advice. |
Oh, poor, poor OP. No one is helping you with your major dilemma fast enough! How horrible of all of us!!! |
| Trust me, OP, based on your responses to other posters, just being away from you will be gift enough for her. |
| You guys are the reason we come to DCUM every day. Thanks a lot! |

OP, cash is always appreciated. Gift cards to places like Target too. I don't know how much you want to spend, but here are some ideas if you'd rather do more of a gift:
-set of wine glasses and a bottle or two of wine -varieties of coffee, regular mugs/travel mugs, biscotti -good mixing bowls and a cookbook or two -Laundry basket with cleaning supplies (I realize some people might hate this idea, but I'm a practical gift kind of girl so I'd love something like this. Know your audience) If you like any of the ideas, I can offer up more specific options. |
Who is "we"? |
Seriously, OP, calm down. We do not work for you and do not live to help you. I am an MB with a life. |
If she is taking care of children then she isn't living for free! |
Last week was her last week working for us so she'll be indeed living for free until she leaves in January. Thanks for your helpful response to my question. |
Those are some cool ideas thanks a lot! We'll do cash and also a phone (she's using one of our family lines for now) but I wanted something nice extra. I love the wine and the coffee idea. We thought of household stuff but apparently her boyfriend already has a home all set up so I don't think they'll need the kitchen and cleaning items. I like the cookbook idea. She cooked a lot with the kids. Thanks a lot. |

What about a subscription to something like blue apron if she likes cooking? And some wine? Could be a "cute" idea for moving in with the BF.
