Do you doubt your bosses intelligence sometimes? RSS feed

I wonder for a guy who's been a CEO of major companies, and currently holds a high profile position, my boss has the stupidest ideas when it comes to the kids and household decisions. I wonder if this is common with everybody? I'll give you an example. They live on a rental house, they are about to move in roughly 3 weeks. Today he asked me to "install" in the playroom some foam play mats, those that are inter-exchangeable and connect to each other. We have probably about 60 and they have been in the garage for the past, I don't know... year at least. I reminded him about the move and if it is really worthy to use the time this way since we'll have to uninstall them pretty soon (this took time, had to wipe them all, bring them in, connect one by one, it is a huge play area!). He says well, it is really important because if the boys fall they are protected. WTF??!!!

Maybe he forgot the playmats were there. So you knew these were lying for a year why didn't you remind him before? You come across as lazy not wanting to do do the work.

Nanny here and I am sorry but you should have remembered that the play mats were in the garage. Assuming that your employers paid for your time installing them, I don;t understand what your complaint is.

Sorry, Nanny, but you are wrong on this example.

OP you seem really lazy. This is your job, why not just do it? I have installed and removed those play mats 100 in a gym that is larger than your DBs playroom I'm sure, it's not that hard.

Oh my god...you had to connect them ONE BY ONE? You poor thing. That must have been awful!

You're unhappy because you had to do the work. It's a perfectly reasonable request and is not at all dumb on the part of CEO dad. Now, his hiring decision with respect to you as their nanny...THAT may be questionable.

As a nanny, I generally side with nannies, but your example was not a good one in which to make your case. I agree that you should have suggested the mat-tiles long before and installed them without complaint when finally asked. It makes no difference if they are going to move in three days or three years - the father is concerned about falls which could happen in three seconds.

I'm with you. If moving in 3 weeks, why bother. If they were so important to him, he would've told you long ago they were there.
Not a nanny.
He just wants what he wants when he remembers that he wants it.

This is not about intelligence.

Agreed.

OP, you sound like you're whining about the work. That's a different issue than having an unintelligent boss.

Op here. The mom hated them and she wanted them unninstalled. She has been away for work for a week and genius dad thinks this is really something that should be done when we are moving in 3 weeks. The house will be packed up to move in 2 weeks. This has nothing to do with me being lazy. Since mom is away I start working at 7 am and don't stop till 8:30pm. I do EVERYTHING all day, they are not in camp. We do outings and their scheduled activities. On top of that I have to keep up with laundry and have the house neat. I'm also starting their packing process (on the kids part).... You guys are sure quick to judge on little information!!!

Plus it is not my job to remind him about something he walks thru and sees everyday while walking to his car. I don't understand why he didn't care about ir for a year and now that the house is sold he suddenly thinks of it. Don't feet ladies, I am really not lazy and washed all of them and put them down yesterday. But I still think it's stupid.

We "judged" based on the information you gave and then you asked for our opinions. Please stop whining.

And even with your explanation, you should have told the DB that his wife did not want them reinstalled.

Oh actually, OP here again. Maybe it is my fault as I have not given much information. Need to clarify one thing. The boys are 10, 9 and 7. They don't freaking fall like, that much!!!!!

Oh please give me a break! Still with the judging. HE HIMSELF mentioned while asking me that his wife hates these mats and didn't want them in the house. She is away for work. I have to do what he is asking me (which I did).
