Hey everybody, my mb and db left for Europe yesterday, leaving me and the kids at home. They will be gone through the end of the month.

The kids go to bed at 7pm every day, but the baby will wake up around 10pm to eat one last time. I don't want to go to bed and then have to get up forty minutes later to feed him. I never have a problem finding stuff to do in the evenings at home (I'm a live out) but I am going stir crazy here!!

Now I find myself with time on my hands and no idea how to fill it. The house is cleaned, dishes and laundry done. Clothes for school tomorrow are laid out, and activities and meals for the next week planned. Mb/db don't have a tv, although I might rent a movie tomorrow and watch it on my laptop. I don't have any classes to study for. I read for a while, but need some more suggestions. PLEASE HELP!!

You were an idiot to accept such a job.

Hopefully you're making tons of money doing this; sounds like a sweet gig to me! Honestly my favorite things to do after the kids go to sleep when I'm babysitting are knit or sew, or read a good book (if you don't have a good book go on Amazon and find/get one or go to the library). I also have been doing Rosetta Stone to brush up my Spanish, and I play sudoku, and online word and trivia games; lumosity is great, too. Skype with friends or family that live far away, or write them an old fashioned letter! Research online, for future travels or local events, or recipes...

Yeah I think there's a decent amount to do

Op here. Thanks. Those are some great ideas. I think I might have to write some letters. I don't think I've done that since college.

And yes I am making a ton of extra cash! I will be doubling my monthly salary in eight days time. And I get most of the week after they get back off (with full pay) to recover.

Do a Netflix binge. If you don't a Netflix account you can join for free for one month as a trial. Great BBC shows on Netflix!

Do you like to cook? I would cook some freezable meals for the family; it would be nice thing for the parents to come home to.

+1 Get in bed and watch on your lap top. I was home sick and our TV is in the living room and DS is only 1.5 so I couldn't turn it on in front of him. I was bored to death. Nanny suggested Netflix and the free month trial... I happily watched "Call The Midwife" for hours!

I keep a list of things I never have time to do so when I do have time and can never think of things Ive got a list!

Cook a recipe thats time consuming? go on a baking spree? muffins freeze well. Look on amazon for gift ideas for birthdays/xmas. Do an at home facial mask. Plan your next holiday? look for extra/cool classes in your area (for the kids or for you)

I always want to do these thins but usually end up wasting my time on the internet

Op here: thanks for the suggestions

I signed up for the month trial on Netflix. Any suggestions for favorite shows??

I'm not a huge cook but db has a large selection of the Williams Sonoma cook books. Their recipes are really good but tend to take a while. Maybe I will try a few of those. Let's hope I discover something fabulous!

To the pp, yes I have a boyfriend. however he is in the middle of a huge project at work for the next month and barely has time to eat and sleep. It was part of the reason I agreed to work this stretch. I knew he wouldn't be around very much.

thanks for the suggestions. Please keep them coming.

Pushing daisies is a good show and is only a couple seasons. Cleverly written.

Awesome!! I used to have a job like that when I worked full time.
Enjoy!!
When I stay overnight, I usually do something on eBay (I'm selling most of my books), play with the dogs, plan my next trip or just do some research online.
I'm only slightly less curious than a cat

On a positive scale OP, now you can see how it is like having young children.

You sound young so hopefully this is a good "eye opening/birth control"-type situation that can also be a life lesson learning experience.

Enjoy your time before kids.

I love the BBc shows on Netflix. I love "Call the Midwife" and "Peaky Blinders". "Luther" is a great cop show.
