I did 15 days of PTO. I didn't want to separate out sick days from vacation - I feel like that breeds lying. If you need a mental health day just take a day off. If you want a day off to recover from a weekend in Vegas, don't call in sick.
15 days gives two weeks of vacation and 3 sick days and 2 floating holidays. We give all federal holidays off. We also have a full time live out nanny. |
| I asked for a weeks worth (36 hours in my case) of PTO/sick time and a week's vacation. After a year, I will increase my vacation to two weeks. I also get paid for all federal holidays. |

We do something very similar, except I do not offer all Fed holidays because I don't get all Fed holidays and need coverage for the "less popular" Fed holidays. I am very specific in the contract about which holidays we can offer and add some extras (day after Thanksgiving and two additional holidays for her personal cultural celebrations that she requested. We also give her her birthday off paid). It seems to work very well for us. |

We allow one week of carryover/banked leave into the next year. We also give occasional extra days off around holidays etc... |
| We do all standard Federal holidays (ie not Veteran's Day or Columbus Day) and then she gets 1 week of vacation at her discretion and 1 week of sick. As a family, we take 4-5 weeks of vacation - which she knows about well in advance - and we pay her while we're away. |

5 major national holidays (we both work federal holidays). Unlimited paid sick days (rarely used). If something major came up we'd have to work out a solution. |
Experience doesn't automatically translate into higher wages because the job details set the rate. Most parents don't need or want to pay a higher rate for toddler care unless the child has special needs or the nanny has an exceptional skill parents want to pay for, like a second language. Simply doing a job that requires no education or certification and one where experience doesn't equal a better nanny is not worth more money. |
| We started out with room to grow. The first year we offered all major federal holidays, one week paid vacation and 35 hours of PTO (her average week). In the second year we expanded it to two weeks paid vacation. We actually can't do much more as that is all the time DH and I have off (I'm banking for maternity leave in a year or so). I should also mention that we pay our nanny well and increase her salary by $1 an hour every year and intend to keep doing it. |
I couldn't disagree more. As a FTM I wanted a nanny with a lot of infant experience since neither DH nor I had it. And she is/was far more expensive than the other less experienced nannies we interviewed. She was also a college graduate with years of experience as a preschool teacher which is also something we found worth paying more for. Just watching a kid takes no experience but teaching a child does require both experience and education. |
And millions of drug addicted teens raise a kid with no knowledge of infants and no help and it all works out, but you want some child raising expert (self proclaimed)? |

| Nanny jobs often reset. Sometimes experience counts and you can certainly try to pitch 0yrs vs 5 yrs vs 10vs 15 years and see what happens. Some families my pay marginally more or materially more not at all. |
