Do you guys pay your nanny when you go on vacation? She is willing to come with us but only for extra pay.

Yes.

We pay if we go and don't need her. We pay extra if she comes with. Plus pay for her own room, all expenses.

Yes, we pay. It is just like daycare centers - you have to pay whether or not they are actually looking after your child.

Yes, of course.

She's paid her normal weekly salary if we take a vacation and don't have her accompany us.

She is of course compensated when she joins us on vacation and yes, it does end up being more expensive. I try to remember that this isn't her vacation, even if she does get some time to lie by the pool, and that she's giving up a great deal of comfort in agreeing to stay with us at a hotel or rental all week.

We don't take her with us unless we absolutely need to, for financial reasons as well as to have some private family time.

We pay her a retainer rate, which is her guaranteed weekly hours.

We have not yet taken her with us on vacation. Sounds like a waste of money if she is asking for more pay + her travel + her meals + her lodging. She would have negotiated herself out of that one!
Just hire a nanny on site, hotels have many reputable recommendations.

If we take her she gets her usual pay per hour and same 8 hours of work/day but at our choosing (morning or evening or afternoon).

I'd choose not to go if I were your nanny. Why should I leave my home to stay overnight with you knowing that you plan to play around with my hours. PS-where would I be sleeping? With the kids? No way. BTW, I have guaranteed hours. That means if you choose to take vacation and I am available to work, you pay me. So what's the advantage of me accompanying you on YOUR vacation?

Your nanny isn't very smart if she agrees to that.

Sounds like a smart move. Hopefully OP will realize she can't afford to take her nanny with on vacation.

Same here. We took her to the Caribbean for a week with us to help cover a wedding. We were clear upfront when our obligations were and when we needed her and she agreed and had a fun time. She was paid her usual weekly amount and all room and board, travel. We also greatly enjoy our kids on vacations so it was far from her "working" 24/7 or whatever anyone else here is having a fit over.
Maybe on an office/work trip with the kids and nanny it would be different.

No one is having a fit over anything. Nannies are simply saying that a vacation for you is a work trip for your nanny. Of course you have to cover all the expenses including compensating her for her time outside of her home. If you can't afford to do so, that's fine. Let her stay home and you make other childcare arrangements.

Yep. We take him on vacation sometimes, but if we don't, we still pay him.

Yes her regular pay. If nanny is accompanying us then travel and room+board expenses as well.
Depends on your contract OP and what you agreed to. Does nanny get vacation week of her own choosing as well? If so, no reason to pay extra since she is not using up her vacation time.

18:44 here and I'd like to revise my statement. If your nanny agrees to go without additional compensation that is certainly her choice and I can see why some nannies would enjoy going on vacation with their NF especially if they have a good relationship. Personally, I'd rather stay home and get paid then uproot myself and get paid the same.
