MB wants to give her DS a bath -- but then doesn't do it. RSS feed

I am more than happy to do afternoon before-nap baths. I did them for about 6 months but them MB decided that she wanted to make it part of the child's pre-bed routine. Great. I understand and have no problem with it. It is less work for me. HOWEVER, most days she doesn't do it. Either she got home too late or was too tired. So the next day I have to take the toddler out in the morning with greasy hair (he's 18 months and still like to touch his head when eating).

I am embarrassed by this. I like my charges to be clean and dressed nicely when I take them out.

I know there is really nothing I can do about this situation but continue to offer to give baths... So I guess this is just a vent.

If she doesn't do it the night before, give him a quick bath in the morning.

Give the situation more time, OP. There were so many things that I wanted to do (make DD's baby food on weekends, do all crafts, etc) that I simply never had time to do on weekends and evenings. I think DD's nanny knew that and just waited for me to come back around and ask her to take over again.

If I asked my nanny to not give my DS a bath and then she did it anyways (except for emergencies such as poop or vomit or mud puddles) I would fire her.

OP here. I would never do something my employer asked me not to do. So relax, PP. No need to threaten to fire anyone.

I feel my charge's appearance is a direct reflexion on me as a nanny, so I get your frustration, OP.

Get your charge a baseball cap! There is little else you can do.

If I set out instructions for you ("Don't give DS a daily bath") and you do it anyways because you feel I'm not doing my part as a mother your employment would be terminated. What's idiotic about that?

OP NEVER said that she was going to go against her employer's request. I assume the morning bath would be under mutual consent. Why would a mother want her child going around the neighborhood with food in his hair?

DCUMer are so quick with "...I'd fire her!" and "...I'd quit!" It is laughable as they are just immature power plays.

Yes. Or a washcloth and the tiniest amount of water/shampoo. Both will work. Comb/ brush after. Kid won't look dirty and mom can still give a bath.

OP here - how to you get all the shampoo out of his hair without rinsing under water? Even a couple wet wash cloths will soak his hair.

I'd really appreciate it if your could step it out for me when you get a chance. I would do anything rather than let the little guy go in public with food grease in his hair.

An 18 mth old doesn't need a bath every day, every other day (or even third) is more than sufficient, barring any messy play activities.

Let it go.

Just talk to them and ask if it is ok you give a bath in the morning if they are too tired to give one in the evening. We bath our kids daily so I agree with you.
