| We are trying to figure out our childcare situation for my 2.5 yr old for the fall. Our nanny share is ending June 30. Our nanny will be looking to move to another full time position. So far we have only gotten into one part time preschool program that starts in September, M - Th from 8:30am - 12:30pm. Are there quality nannies who would only want 30 hrs a week? What's the going rate for 1 child for those hours? We are waitlisted at my desired full day program so we'll see if that turns into anything. |
| Of course, there are plenty of nannies looking for part time work. I work part time myself and really enjoy it. These nannies could be in school part of the time, could work a second job with another family, or don't actually "need" to work for the money so are happy to work less hours. Expect to pay a slightly higher hourly rate for part time work. And offering guaranteed hours will really expand your candidate pool I would think. |
| What is an appropriate rate for 25 - 30 hrs a week for 1 toddler? |
I don't live in DC, but in CT and I would probably say around $18/hour. I currently make $20/hour for 4 kids but they are all in school. |

Absolutely!
I am a Nanny and I have always worked part-time positions. Personally, I prefer to work part-time only since I am older and have already raised my own children and I also do not need to work full-time hours to financially support myself. I love children and I love doing what I do, but it would be just too much for me to do this every single day, for 8-10 hours daily. Maybe if I were younger and didn't have any kids yet..... As for rate, that really depends on where you live at. |
| South Arlington. |
| FWIW, we've been paying $18 an hour for 2 toddlers in a share. |

Absolutely!
I'm a nanny that went to part-time 60 hour weeks were killing me. I now work 25 hours a week and love it! My rate is $25 which is on the high end, but I am caring for 3 babies. Rate will depend on your area, the kind of nanny you want, and job duties. Good luck! |

Make sure you are honest with the nanny about
being on a waiting list for full time daycare. |
| Yes they do! I've worked between 25 to 36 hours, 3/4 days a week for the past 8 years, and I love it. I'm able to pursue other interests, and I'm a much happier person. |

I work part time for a family right now. I work for them from 1:30 to 5:30 3 or 4 days a week. I fill in the times Im not working with babysitting jobs and one housekeeping job. I love it. If my charge is out of school on a friday I sometimes work a full day and we go to A museum or aquarium.
BUT if a great family with great pay and a great vibe offered me a full time position then I would consider leaving my current family. It pays the bills and I enjoy them but I wouldn't mind working more hours. |
| In Arlington, between $15-17 an hour. |
| I'm a nanny that prefers to work 30 hours as this gives me time to schedule appointments and get my stuff done during normal business hours. I have and will work 40 plus hours a week but if I am able to find a 30 hour a week job that pays well I will take that over a 50 hour week. You may need to increase your pay or offer benefits like pto and paid sick days to attract nannies. You could also offer 1 week paid vacation to me 2 weeks is overkill for a 30 hour job |
| Your best bet is to look for someone nearby. |
In DC $18 an hour for 1 will get you an illegal and nothing more. If you want your child to learn English you need to pay more. |
