I want to quit my nanny job. RSS feed

I’m simply just not as energetic as my younger self, and most definitely not as peppy. There’s only so many times I can hear crying and playing the same games year after year until I want to pull my hair out. I feel I am faking my love for being a nanny.

My husband has always supported my decision to stay at home and financially we can make it work. We're on the same page about me staying home with future kids. I'm turning 27 soon and have been nannying for 6 years or so. I'm feeling so burnt out lately. I only work part-time so reducing hours isn't a possibility. I'm having a hard time getting my charges to sleep for more than 30minutes. they're constantly crying. it's only been 2 weeks since I started working. the constant crying is driving me crazy! !

Not sure what you're looking for here, but it sounds like for your sake and the sake of the kids you're watching, you need to move on.

OMG. You're 27 and talking about your "younger self"???

Please do find a different profession - you definitely don't sound cut out to be a nanny.

I'm so sorry that this is eating you up! But maybe it's better to take a break from kids before having your own? There are many wonderful things about being a SAHM/nanny, but it is exhausting! It is also, often, a long, hard day with cranky children, tedious and boring, (Candyland again!) and a blow to the self-esteem sometimes.

Try hard to make a choice and focus on all that you have that is good in your life. It will only eat you up and make it difficult if you're not happy with your job.

I can really relate to this. I'm 26 and have been nannying for five years and just don't feel the same about it anymore. I have been building up my resume for other job opportunities and still fake being cheery with my charges so please nobody flame me for being a bad nanny, but I get it. It sounds like you know it's time to move on. It was a tough choice for me as well because I used to love it so much, but ultimately I know its the right thing for me (and my charges). Good luck OP!

Wow. So you are only 27, you've only been at this new job for 2 weeks, and you are already having burnout? Yeah, this definitely isn't for you..... you can afford to quit, so why not quit?

OP are you overweight?

You are not cut out to be a nanny. Quit now for your sake but more for the sake of your charges.

I'm not burnt out from the job. I think it's nannying in general. I had two jobs before this not work out. one job there was a grandmom home who micromanged me. the other job suddenly needed full-time because mb got a fulltime job out of the blue. it's always hard the first few weeks because toddlers cry until they adjust. i had to go through this adjustment three times this past year. since August I've been dealing with constant crying. it's been so tough.

What does OPs weight have to do with anything?

A 26 year old who finds NANNYING to hard? She has to be either overweight or has some severe undiagnosed medical condition. What job can be easier than being a nanny?
