I want to quit my nanny job. RSS feed

I am an overweight nanny and I still run after my charges and engage them during the day. Any regardless of weight can however get burnout. If I felt burned out, it wouldn't be because of my bmi, it would be because of the lifestyle.

You're 27, started work two weeks ago and work part time?
You just need a routine and the new kids to get used to you. Or you should have taken a break between jobs. Don't give subpar work because you're suddenly burned out, just quit and stop complaining in dcum.

the nanny world is very odd, i sometimes read high-end agencies' job listings located in Beverly Hills and other wealthy cities, and many of them are not paying as much as you're making. Then there is the odd one paying $100k.. while the rest offer usually about $20hr. it's strange, it's either all or almost nothing out there

It's just like everything else out there, the people paying the top end salaries and demanding something special in return don't advertise on care.com or use a crap agency that finds it's nannies on care.com and craigslist (look at care.com in DC and see all the ads from white house nannies and other local agencies, why pay an agency fee and all those other costs when they are just finding their nannies on care.com like you could do yourself!) The people paying 100k a year for a nanny have other ways of finding the right people.

I'm the PP that said I make 58 in Arlington. I've been w the family for two years and recently tried to go back on care because I wanted to cut back on my hours/have less of a commute but all I found was crap!! Horrible wages and after emailing with a few of the moms I decided to suck it up and stay

I got my job from care.com and get $25 an hour base. It's not crap, all the jobs list the pay range right in the search results. What could be easier.

I know how you feel, OP. I'm 29, I had two consecutive 3 year long nanny jobs and have been working in a daycare toddler room for the past four years, so I have been with kids more or less full-time for the last ten years. I feel like I've heard every variation of every single thing that a child could possibly say, I've played every game and lived each scenario that is available in the universe. I still do my job well and care for my charges, but I definitely don't have the same zeal I had a few years ago. I've decided to stay in the daycare for the rest of this school year and then try and get a job in my career field, though I'll have to take a huge pay cut. I have been effectively running the daycare for the last two years, but I'll probably have to start with being a coffee girl.

My point is, it's okay to be tired of nannying. It isn't brain surgery, no, but it is draining. If you can afford to, look into doing something else. There will always be children to help raise, so you can always go back to nannying if you realise you miss it.

OP- you should keep an eye on yourself after having Lyme's disease- it can lead on to arthritis after having this so make sure you get checked out. I was diagnosed with arthritis when I was 12 and they took blood tests to find out if I'd had Lyme's diseases previously. (I hadn't, just a fluke that I got it) but worth thinking about with the achy joints! Good luck in whatever you decide to do x

Then by all means quit!

You are not doing yourself or those innocent children any favors by staying in a position where you are obviously absolutely miserable and since you don't really need the money, it is basically useless to stay.

Those kids deserve so much more as well.
