Just a question about pay.
I'm currently nannying once a week with the occasional extra days and I am getting paid $12 an hour for two kids. I am also expected to drive the kids to/ from school in the afternoons. So I drive to the house, watch the 2 year old, drive 30 minutes to pick the 7 year old up and then 30 minutes home. Some days also they want me to take them to a park that is 20 minutes away (so 40 minutes round trip). I didn't know about all this when I accepted the job so the discussion of gas money never gave up so I don't get extra for that. Today when I arrived the eldest had a friend over so I was watching 3 kids still only for $12 an hour. I am giving up shifts that I could be working at my regular job which pays $20 an hour to work with these kids and I do enjoy it but it's becoming not worth it anymore.
Do you think I would be asking too much to be paid more and is it too late to change the rate now anyway? I have been offered a different nanny job for one child on another afternoon that is paying me $15 an hour for one child. What should I do? :/

Sorry but if you'e working one day a week that's not nannying. That's a regular babysitting gig.

Just take the $15 an hour job and the first time they ask you to drive somewhere, tell them you need gas money.

Yes, you are underpaid! Why did you accept this babysitting gig for so little money? Give notice and take the other job.

I earn $18 an hour for one child. Yes, you should leave and take a better paying babysitting job. Don't accept less than $15.

Don't be an idiot - of course you should quit!!!

Uh...Why are you giving up shifts at a $20/Hr. job in the first place for this job? I don't get it, this doesn't make any sense. (or dollars for that matter!)

And yes, you are being taken to the cleaners. This family is getting a great deal with you and are taking full advantage.

Either ask for more or just take the $15/Hr. job right away.

You do not work for charity, do you?

Good luck either way.

I don't get why you are giving up hours with your full time job which pays more but that's your choice. If you like the one day a week job, the kids and parents then I suggest talking to them about gas reimbursement which the federal rate is $00.56 a mile, a gas stipend each month, or a raise. If they are unwilling to do any of those options which it's illegal not to reimburse then I would quit and pick up the hours with your full time family.

I didn't even finish reading your story. Few first sentences were enough .... You are so underpaid !!!!

OP here, the reason I don't just quit and work my day job is because I don't get guaranteed hours that day, just every so often I get called in to work that day but have to say no because of this babysitting job.
Thanks for all your responses and I will chat to her about pay. I am taking the $15 an hour job as well as that's just one night a week for a couple of hours on a different day so I can still do both.
So nervous about how to bring it up though!
