Nanny has been working for us for four months - what holiday bonus is appropriate? RSS feed

I am part of a nanny share. The nanny has been working for us for 4 months (same for the other family, more or less). I think that it is standard to give a nanny a week's pay as a holiday bonus. What is the right bonus when the nanny has been working for less time - four months? I want to give her a bonus that shows that we appreciate her, and don't know what her expectations are. TIA.

Do you intend to employ her for a long time? Is she doing a good job? If so, give her the full amount.
Doing things like this buys a lot of good will.

She's worked for a third of a year. So give her a third of a week's pay.

Our nanny started in October. She is getting $250 (about 1/3 of her weekly pay), and a small gift.

FWIW, though, I don't do a week's salary usually. I usually do $400-$500.

Do you have any gift cards you can regift (used or full value, money is money)? That is always a nice and usually free gift.

Who the hell regifts partially used gift cards? That would be so insulting.

I would never forget that and it would most definitely change the way I feel about my job.
That is beyond insulting.
I once recieved a $20 gift card to Outback Steakhouse from my employers....they knew I'm vegan. That was my Christmas gift.
They were jerks, but that was the beginning of the end.

OP here. $400 would be a full week's pay. Give her that? Yes, we plan on employing her for a long time.

I just saw this on the Today show yesterday morning and they said that a holiday bonus to give your nanny should equal a week's pay.

Give her a third of that, since she's worked for you for a third of the year.

MB here, if you really like her, give her $400. For a 40 hour week, her salary is on the low side.

OP might be talking about her share of the nanny share. OP, does the nanny makes at least $800 total?

Another MB here. We had just hired our nanny in November as a PT baby sitter and then we ended up hiring her as our FT nanny for January. That first December, we gave her 1/2 of her week's pay and a Christmas gift. We really liked her and wanted to employe her for a long time (that was 3 years ago).

Yes, that is our share. Nanny makes a little over $800 total per week.

Ok, that is a competitive wage. I still would give one week for a nanny I really liked.
