New babysitter holiday gift

We just had a new babysitter start with us this week. She will be working 6 hours a week and I'm wondering what to get her for a holiday gift since she will only have been with us for 3 weeks when Christmas comes. Also, do you generally give very part time sitters paid holidays?

A $15 gift card (or $25 if you are very wealthy) or maybe a card with cash, or maybe some little item like a mug or novelty pen.

Giving a little gift would be thoughtful.
I know that as a babysitter I wouldn't have expected one at all but would have been happily surprised if I had.

A little box of chocolate or small present with $20 would be nice.

I've been the sitter in this situation a few times. I never expect anything. Often families will give an extra $15-25 on the last check before the holiday which is always very thoughtful and remembered throughout the year, particularly when they need some flexibility. Others have sent me a card with a check for $25. Others have done nothing.

OP here, thanks. I was thinking of giving a nice cashmere scarf--they are on sale at some department doors for $40 or so. Do you think it would be better to give cash?

+1. She will only have worked for you 18 hours total. What if she isn't a good sitter and you choose to replace her in January? Save it and give her something for her birthday if she will have been with you at least six months at that time.

This is a very generous gift for someone that just started with you.

It's wonderful that you are so thoughtful.

Just a thought a gift like that so early on might make her feel awkward.

If you want to give her something maybe a small bag of chocalates\ candies and a thank you note.
