Actually I am a nanny, and a gift so early on especially would make me uncomfortable.

No, in general they usually do not get paid holidays.
As for a gift, you do not have to get her anything, but if you want to get her something...A nice token is always appreciated. Something small & simple like a gift card is sufficient. Perhaps a $30 gift card for Starbucks, Target or Amazon would be nice. |
