| How much do you usually spend on a nanny's birthday? She's been with us for 4 months and for DCs birthday she was generous and got presents for all the children (not just the birthday child's). I don't really know what she likes or needs and don't want to get something she doesn't like so I was thinking of a nordstroms gift card. The question is how much to spend. |
| I give $25 if we've worked together for less than a year and $50 if we've worked together a year or more. |

Is she over 21? Wine.
Does she drink coffee? Mug/travel mug and Starbucks card or fancy coffee Does she have a kindle? Amazon gift card My only (minor) issue with gift cards to stores is that sometimes I don't typically shop there, so I have to try and find something I like, and then I usually have to spend more than the gift card. So I'm spending money I wouldn't otherwise spend on a gift I wouldn't normally buy. I'm more practical though. I'd rather target over Nordstrom |
| I would do $50-75. In less you know she shops at Nordstrom, I would go somewhere more practical too. I prefer Target, Marshall's, TJ Max, etc. I got a gift card from Nordstrom and waited 9 months to use it. It wasn't enough to buy me much so I finally bought shoes for my child. Or, maybe $50 to Target, etc. and $25 to somewhere like Panera, Chippolte, or where she can use for lunches if she is out with the kids. |
| She doesn't drink wine or coffee. She definitely doesn't have a kindle and I don't really think she uses Amazon. She's 59 years old and she just seems like she would like Nordstroms (not because she's 59 but just because of how she dresses). I was actually planning to get her a $100 gift card so that should be enough to buy something she'd like. I could do Target but I feel like she might like Nordstroms better, but I don't really know. I want to get her something she'd like since she really made an effort to get things my DCs like. |
| We gave our nanny $100 when she had been with us for 6 months. We'll give her the same this year though too. |
| You sound very generous OP! When in doubt, cash is always awesome! Also, a card with a thoughtful note goes a long way too! |
What about a cozy sweater or some fancy pjs? Cashmere scarf? |
| My previous nanny family usually gifted me with a Visa Giftcard, which can be used anywhere. |
| I'm sure she would prefer cash and a sweet gesture from the kids (a card signed by them or drawing), at her age she must be thinking about retiring and some cash could help her I guess. |
|
Nothing less than $50.
Remember what she does for you and your family is priceless. |
| Wow! I'm a nanny and after working for 5 months I got $300 in cash and gift certificate (spa - value $100) |
So I was considering making a post about my recent "birthday gift." I've been working with my current family 3 days per week for two and a half years. The first year, they gave me a jar of jam. This year, after two years of faithful service, they gave me a small, cheap looking vase that looks like it cost less than $5 ( and they didn't even give me any flowers to put in it!). I'm always very generous with gifts for her children on their birthdays and Christmas. Should I say something?? It feels rude that they couldn't get me anything nice at all (it feels like they just forgot and found something lying around the house). Plus, both last year and this year I worked for them on my actual birthday (and reminded them about it in advance). Is there anything I can do? It does feel like a slap in the face

| I usually get $100 spa gift card |
It's not about what gift you get. Be grateful. |
