And then occasionally work a weekend evening too after getting up at 7/730, working a few hours then back on for evening? Just trying to figure out how this all works. TIA

It depends on whether the kids are in school during the week. We always max out hours on Friday afternoon, weekends the au pair hangs out with us only when she wants to, we hire a sitter if we have to go out.

Ours gets up with our kids Saturday AM. It’s a big reason why we got an AP, to have one morning to rest.

If you have AP work Saturday morning, Saturday night, then possibly Sunday morning, when is their 1.5 consecutive day off?

. But I guess you decided to ignore that part. Anyway, 1.5 consecutive day off doesn't have to be on the weekend. If she works Saturday AM and PM and she gets off Sunday and Monday morning, it is all good!

The 1.5 consecutive days off is only a rule for Cultural Care. It is not part of the Au Pair regulations and not required by any other agency.

I was with EurAP and now with APC and they all had the same rule so I don’t think it is part of the regulation.

APIA requires a 1.5 day off per week that does not have to be consecutive

Most HP have the AP work all weekdays. Most, not all. Which is why I asked, because they might be willing/able to do 1.5 consecutive (which is what is required for most agencies). It could feasibly be Friday afternoon-Saturday night off, Sunday morning through Monday afternoon, or during weekdays. I understand .5 day to be no more than 5 hours worked the rest of the day (because otherwise it’s shifting hours earlier or later, not giving a half day off).

So you’re technically allowed to three half days off and add them up to be 1.5 days off? Ridiculous.

I am a nurse and For several years my days off were Sunday-Monday, so yes my AP worked every Saturday (full day).

Still not sure how the 1.5 non consecutive days off works, but I am HM and I believe that is a great rule because we all need a long break to recharge so does an AP. The 1.5 consecutive days off rule should be universal for all agencies.

I make coffee for myself, shower and get dressed for work. I think it's ridiculous to say she can't work while I'm still there, because it means I either need to leave for work by 6:45 or not start getting ready for work until after 7:45. I guess I could just get up an hour earlier to get myself ready and then spend an hour getting my kids out the door and then go to work myself, but that frankly makes no sense for our family.

Exactly, this is what an AuPair is for! An extra 5hrs of sleep and no chaos before your work day starts.

If an AP is resentful IDGAF, just keep to your self or you can get packing for rematch.

I honestly NEVER do this. The workweek is chaotic and I really enjoy my kids on the weekends. I actually look forward to it. Our AP works if we go out. We go out maybe once a month without the kids on the weekend.

Same for all federal holidays. If we are off, she is off. Those are sacred family days.
