Did you give your nanny Thursday and Friday off? RSS feed

Yes, of course. And a half day today.

Yes but she is coming to have Thanksgiving with us as an honored guest.

Lucky you. Poor nanny.

Eh.
1. Our nanny is not American and does not care about Thanksgiving.
2. We give two other consecutive days off when we're home.

You're right that being an indentured servant for you is nothing to be thankful for.

Is she an indentured servant because she’s traveling for work over the holiday or because she is not American born???

Yes, of course! We actually gave our nanny the whole week off because we took it off as well. She is paid 52 weeks a year (I guess it might not be the case if she ever overused her leave but that's never happened). She gets off whenever we don't need her (i.e. we're also off) but she is paid for those days as if she worked. She also gets two weeks of her own time to take off whenever she wants. Honestly, we don't keep track of her time off because it's easy enough for us to plan ahead and she's always really responsible about asking far in advance.

You’re lucky that both your employers give you a week off for Thanksgiving. That is not the norm.

Years back when I could afford a nanny, I just asked her preference. One year she offered to give me a break and come by for a few hours on Friday ( even though the kids were out of town). I liked her very much so I didnt mind spending the extra money on paid days, since she'd saved my hindparts many many a day.

Our employers didn't give us the week off, we used our vacation to take it off. Do you not get any leave?

Yes, but we get two weeks total plus sick leave. I am not taking off an entire week at Christmas. I always work Christmas since its not my holiday and I'd rather others enjoy it and take off at another time.

I gave Wed-Friday off as I had it off. I want her to have time to be rested and recharge!

Our nanny has 32 hours guaranteed per week. She worked 3 days, was paid for 4 days.

What do you do? I never believe these posts. All these folks working the day after thanksgiving & xmas eve... in empty offices?

I have always worked those days. Great time to catch up as office is quieter. I’d rather not waste my leave. I don’t celebrate Christmas so I’d rather work so someone else can take off. Office is far from empty.

I have never worked in an office in all my 30 professional years.

Why do you assume people do??
