If you are so great at English you may want to check your spelling |

The first year we hosted, our first offer was turned down after several interviews. We found out later that AP matched with a family in Ohio with 4 kids, including infant twins! ??. (She was from the same country as the AP we ended up with - who was wonderful and I am thankful every day our 1st choice turned us down- and they met at orientation).
DCUM would have you believe that in order to be competitive you need to have an easy gig + higher stipend + private use of the luxury SUV. But as usual DCUM exaggerates. I have NO desire to host a princess who is attracted to the type of family that flashes perks and extravagance. |
So great at English? Interesting use of a preposition. |
We noticed the AP's who were better English speakers tended to match more quickly if in an immediate major city (we later learned many ended up in Manhattan, NW DC, San Fran, or Chicago when they told us why they turned us down). And some AP's who we interviewed matched with families with more of an "easy" gig (i.e. one kid).
You sort of need to "upsell' your situation: show how nice your area is, fun things they can do where you live, what the pubic transportation is like, that maybe your family might be more friendly that other host families so they should consider you, show pictures of the car/room/home they will live in if especially nice, how easy your kids are, etc. Put yourself in their shoes. Many don't want to share a 2 bedroom apartment with 5 kids and one bathroom, as an example....but maybe more appealing if it's in the heart of DC next to all the action! Show the positive in the profile, and have the realistic conversations over Skype/Facetime. |
Sharing the one bath in our 900 sq. ft. home with daughter and me was never a deterrent for any of my 4 APs (3 Brazilian, one French). I think the one child and single parent situation was the biggest seller. 2 of the 4 APs were from single-parent homes. We are near downtown Silver Spring, just outside DC, and they could be in DC in minutes on the metro or bus.

Wasn’t trying to claim o was any better. Just pointing out the hypocrisy |
Or you're too stupid to realize that mistakes happen when typing on a phone. Like this one. It's not even up for debate that Northern Europeans by far are the most fluent English speakers outside of English speaking countries. |
Ok MAGA host family |
NP, but did you forget your meds? |
You’re right, they liked not having a man in the house. |
